Cornerstone
529 Main St, HartfordI've walked past this deli countless times and finally stopped in recently. It's very clean inside and I think the constant construction outside doesn't do them justice. I was immediately greeted by someone behind the counter and it was a super quick turnaround between me ordering my Italian combo and getting it at my table. My sandwich was absolutely huge! I can't remember the last time I've had a sandwich this big and I think it was pretty affordable. I do wish that they had iced coffee and more baked good options though!

Fire-N-Spice Vegan Restaurant, Bakery and Juices
491 Capitol Ave, HartfordFood was good but didn’t have a few of the patties listed on the menu. Also shortly after using my discover card there about 4 hours later fraudulent activity started to happen. I’d go back there but of course with cash only.

Banh Meee
126 Ann Uccello St, HartfordHad passed this place several times and since it was within a short walk from Theater Works, we tried it. Only difficulty was with the computer-based ordering. I was confused to start and unknowingly timed out on my order. The young gentleman in the front of the house quickly rectified it. My need in a good bahn mi is the correct bread and this place did just that! Excellent. I had the flank steak bahn mi and my dining partner the crispy chicken. Both were delicious, fresh and full of flavor. Skip the curly fries. Glad we got two different choices and split the orders. The room is cafeteria chic. Will definitely return next time theater rolls around.

Story and Soil Coffee
387 Capitol Ave, HartfordInclusive, community-centered coffee shop with a cozy atmosphere, sublime baristas, and the best coffee I've ever had. The chorizo burrito alone is enough to bring you back for more, but the coffee will take your breath away.

First and Last Tavern Hartford
939 Maple Ave, HartfordWhen you step into First &Last on Maple avenue, you enter a restaurant filled with ambiance - the smell, the brick walls covered with old photos of dignitaries, the stone floor, the veggie bins in front of the pizza oven. You are back in the 40's. Parking - there is a small lot in back of the building and on street parking. We usually use the lot across the street at night. Seated in a comfy booth, we put our order in and await the bread basket. Focaccia that you cannot stop eating (even though you know you should stop to save room for your meal), a raisin bread that my husband proclaimed "delicious ", and Italian bread. I think all breads are available for sale too. Service was friendly & welcoming. I had an expresso martini (with Baileys ) and we shared a harvest salad (apples, cheddar, dried cranberries). We easily could have been satisfied with the bread basket & salad, however, we had to order pizzas. A small eggplant pizza for me - plenty of leftovers; and a medium Hamburg/olive pizza for my husband. Crust was crispy and there are plenty of toppings. So delicious. So try the original Hartford location - for the whole experience of food & ambiance.

Peppercorn's Grill
357 Main St, HartfordFirst time booking a reservation here on a friend's recommendation to catch up with old friends: When first walking in, the ambience is great as you are treated to a beautiful mural covering all the walls, transporting you to an old-time Italian town. The staff were very friendly and the lady serving us answered all our questions regarding the menu very kindly. Throughout our night, the staff were very attentive in general, and we were never waiting for anything. The menu has great options, and the seasonal specials looked very unique and eye-catching. We opted for the seasonal special fig appetizer and meatballs to start, as well as our drinks. Drinks came promptly, and we received our first round of food very shortly. The meatballs were piping hot and properly cooked, and the figs were absolutely fantastic and definitely the highlight of our night. For an entrée,I opted for the Chilean Sea Bass special, and my friends both opted for different pasta dishes. The Chilean sea bass was cooked to perfection - crisp on the outside and super soft on the inside, and the sauce that it came with was sweet and delicious. The pastas my friends got looked delicious too. Everything we ordered was plated to exemplify a luxurious experience. The only bad part of the night was that we were so full we couldn't try any desserts! But I'm confident to say that after eating the main menu options, the desserts would match the extremely good quality. I would highly recommend this restaurant for any fancy occasion and will definitely be booking a reservation again. Please try the figs! They also have a private dining hall for bigger parties.
