992 State St, New HavenThe folks here are outstanding. My pup is on immuno-suppressants and blood thinner so she can’t be with other dogs. They not only took her after hours, they added a half-hour post-closing and before we arrived so they could make sure it was clean for her. The groomer took great care with her and was careful to not do anything that would risk cutting her. I’d give them ten stars if I could.

135 Dwight St, New HavenThe Cannon was the most welcoming pub I have been to. My friend and I stumbled in one early afternoon and were initially a bit nervous given we are not sports people. Our nerves were quickly calmed by the delightful person working the bar, who was incredibly kind and guided us through the menu and drink options. We went for the food and were not disappointed! We got the shepherd’s pie, which had perfectly seasoned TVP- warm and cozy on a chilly day. You wouldn’t be able to tell this place was 100% vegan at first glance, but their values were displayed all throughout the bar, making in a great haven for vegans and politically conscious people. The Loop by Hachiroku
Retail space at corner, 367 Orange St, New Haven4.5 / 5.0 - I’d been to the Loop for Japanese groceries and sweets, but this was my first time trying their brunch, which they have on weekends, along with their lunch menu.
They have cafeteria style seating and you order and pick up your food at the counter. It’s quite spacious with large picnic tables and bar seating, but it was almost full when we went past noon yesterday.
It took time to order and get our food, so if you’re in a rush, it may be better to pick up pre-made lunches or sushi from the grocery store instead.
I tried the Open Tamago Sando, which was so delicious I will definitely have to order again. The noodles didn’t have much broth or toppings, so maybe not the best option if you’re looking for something that’s not mostly carbs.
They had outdoor seating, which will be nice once it’s warmer.
