“I've had *this* ring since 2012, but I've been a Kay's customer since 2004. My husband and I traded in my original engagement ring and wedding band for this ring, which we purchased at the Kay Jewelers in Hickory Point Mall in Decatur, Illinois. So I've had this ring for a long time—and I know it *very* well.
Over the years, we've moved around Illinois, and the Kay Jewelers at White Oaks Mall in Springfield became my regular place for inspections and repairs for over a decade. On one other occasion, I had to leave my ring there to have loose stones tightened, and I was always happy with their service. I've never lost a stone, and I always felt confident leaving my ring in their hands.
After moving to where we are now, I started using the Kay location nearby. Last November, I took my ring in for its six-month inspection, and they found some loose diamonds and worked on it.
When I got my ring back, though, it felt and looked different.
I've been staring at this ring for a LONG time. I know how it looks, how it feels, and even how the light moves across the diamonds when I move my hand. When the light moves through it, it looks like fireworks - I kid you not. After that inspection, the ring felt rougher to me, the stones didn't seem to be seated quite right, and they looked darker. I couldn't put my finger on exactly what was wrong, but it simply didn't feel like *my* ring anymore. I was genuinely sad and disappointed.
A few months later, one of the tiny stones actually fell out. It seemed to me that some of the stones weren't sitting properly, and I worried that this might have contributed to the stone coming loose.
At that point, I decided to find another Kay location—this time, I specifically looked for one inside a larger mall. I took my ring to the Kay Jewelers at Fox Valley Mall - which is about 45min - 1 hour away from me - and told the woman there my whole sad story. LOL. She listened, took my ring in, and they went to work.
A couple of days later, I received an email letting me know that my ring had been received and the work had begun. Seven days later, I got the call that it was ready.
I went in to pick it up, and the moment I saw it, I knew.
**There she was.** - Her name is Stella... for stellar...
The stones looked right again. The way they sparkled and moved. The way the light traveled across them. The little flashes and reflections—the general *fireworks* my ring has always displayed when I move it.
I actually started to cry. Right there in the store. How embarrassing, but Happy tears.
It felt like they had returned my ring to me. She was right again.
It wasn't simply that they replaced a stone or tightened everything up. They restored the look and feel that I had known for years. She looked better than she had when I brought her in.
I am incredibly grateful to the Kay Jewelers team at Fox Valley Mall for taking the time to listen to me, understand why I was so concerned, and for taking such good care of something that means so much to me.
Stella feels like my ring again. And that means more to me than I can really put into words.
