“This place has really cool antiquities and coins. Silver and gold. You can hold something in your hand and that has been around for 3,000 years.
They are very fair at their prices both buying and selling. And the people that work there are extremely knowledgeable and helpful.”

“Absolutely recommend 100%. I was tasked by my grandma to have a doll restrung. I was about to ship it to another company for much much more $$$. I didn’t know so I assumed that’s what it costs. I confirmed the address to ship it to and that company never responded. I reached out to GIGI’s. Emailed me back quickly. Very reasonable price. Told me how to ship it. Was returned fixed to me within about a week. Was very happy with it. The doll owner is very happy as well?.”
“Operated by two incredibly passionate and kind individuals who are incredibly knowledgeable and accommodating. When we visited we got to learn about the smithing process and the history of the weapons. We even got to learn some basic dueling techniques with training blades. An amazing experience through and through.”
“When I visited Blick Art Materials, I immediately felt a welcoming and creative atmosphere.
The staff members were incredibly friendly and encouraging, which made the whole experience even more enjoyable.
You can really feel that they appreciate artists and enjoy helping people find the right materials for their projects.
It’s always nice when an art store has this kind of positive energy.
The selection of materials is truly impressive. Whether you are a beginner starting a new hobby or a professional artist working on serious projects, you can find almost everything here.
There are endless choices of paints, brushes, sketchbooks, canvases, markers, and many other tools for creative work.
I especially enjoyed walking through the aisles and discovering so many different materials for painting, drawing, illustration, mixed media, and craft projects. It’s the kind of place where ideas start forming just by looking around.
What makes this location even more interesting is the building itself.
The store is located in a historic building from 1934 that was designed by the well-known Chicago architectural firm Graham, Anderson, Probst & White.
This firm also designed major Chicago landmarks such as the Civic Opera Building and the famous Merchandise Mart, so it’s fascinating to see their work in a smaller but very distinctive building like this.
Before becoming an art supply store,
this building was home to the historic Old Heidelberg Restaurant, a well-known German restaurant that operated here for many years.
The character of that era is still visible today in the building’s unique façade.
One of the most charming features is the beautiful glockenspiel clock above the entrance.
Behind the small wooden doors above the clock is a statue of King Gambrinus, a legendary European figure often known as the “king of beer.”
The statue was created in 1934 by Chicago artist Edgar Miller, adding an artistic and cultural layer to the building’s history.
Seeing this detail makes the storefront feel almost like a hidden piece of Chicago history.
As someone who studied painting, visiting this store was especially inspiring.
Having access to so many art materials inside a building that already has such artistic history makes the experience even more meaningful.
If you are in Chicago and working on any creative project, this is definitely a place worth visiting.”
“Stopped in on a Saturday while in Chicago on a business trip. Great atmosphere & staff! I watched the greetings and interactions between staff & customers. Friendly & fun. Walked out with some new things to try and will return in a few months on my next trip.”
“Incredibly friendly and knowledgeable with some particularly original and clever spins on horror icons. My family and I had a great experience and this was definitely a worthwhile visit during our trip to Chicago!!”
“Very happy I discovered this shop. I have never built models before. 5 months later I am on my 4th model car from this shop. This hobby shop has 100s if not thousands of model cars, tanks, planes, ships, helicopters and more. All at reasonable prices. You can get Tamaiya and other brands of acrylic paint, brushes, and other model supplies all at affordable prices. Janice is always kind and super helpful and patient. I would recommend this shop to experienced and beginner hobbyist looking to get into it. I was never a model builder but now I am an avid enthusiast thanks to Timeless Hobby Shop!”
“Mr Subak is relocated on the 18th floor of the building now. I had a few silver Morgan coins along with some other silver coins , red stamped $2 and $5 bills. I had read the reviews on him here and decided to call for an appointment. VERY nice and fair guy !! My wife and I came in from out of town and were very pleased with him and his offers. I highly recommend him! Give him a call , tell him what you have and go from there. I don’t think you’ll be disappointed.”
“Very amazing service, the workers were really nice and made me talk even though I can be really shy. I got 3 comics and I really loved them. Definitely recommend”
“Good shop, fair prices, and one of the most knowledgeable dudes I’ve ever met. Ron is one of the coolest dudes I’ve ever met at a card shop. I’ll be a repeat customer for sure!”
“This place is awesome! It is the best hidden secret of a bead store in Chicago for gems and other beads. “This shop deserves even more than 5 stars ? ++++++
Shout out to FRED for his patience, honesty, and expert advice that he shared with me during my visit today.
Not only is their selection of items amazing (I had such a a hard deciding what to get!) but also their prices and customer service was better than all the other coin shops that I’ve been to.
100% would recommend to anyone looking for knowledgeable and honest dealers. very happy with my transactions and glad I made the trip out.”
“As soon as I walked into the store, I was greeted and hit with nostalgia. The owner is really hospitable, chill, and knowledgeable of his inventory and history of collectibles. The store is organized by categories, well displayed, and fairly priced. I picked up out-of-box figures and were in excellent condition. I highly recommend this store!”
“Great place in a historic building full of charm. Definitely a must visit for those who are serious about model railroading.. the shelves are stocked to the top with kits that are difficult to find elsewhere and the deals are some of the best I've seen in the hobby.”
“Great affordable items on sale now that can add some fun to your apartment or home.
I see young women walking into the store with smiles thinking what can they do to make Valentines cheerful and happy for them…”
“Great place to find vintage toys and modern toys. I use to go to the old location but this one is bigger and plenty of parking. The owner is a great guy!!! Most definitely will go back!!!”

“Incredible shop, something for every level collector. You will not leave empty handed. The clerk it knowledgeable and willing to advise if needed. If your looking for something extremely specific I would call first a few days before so he can set it aside, at times they are busy. And cannot hunt the very rare and obscure. None the less I love the shop but no longer live in the state.”
“Visited yesterday to get something framed. The person who typically does the framing wasn't there. There was however a most helpful associate! She makes me believe in customer service again!”
“Helpful staff, even though it was twenty minutes before closing and I was asking pretty trivial questions (no such thing as a stupid question unless it is coming from me??)”
“Love this cozy airplane shop. The owner is super nice and I love going through the many diecast airplanes he has on his store. I'm glad to see a store like this still exist and I will definitely stop by again the next time I'm in Chicago area. Highly recommended to all!”
