Pet Grooming

Canine Coiffure Ltd
2665 Waukegan Ave, Highland ParkI very highly recommend this groomer! David is very kind and accommodating, and I know my cat is in good hands when I drop her off.
She's a super strong, nervous cat, and David handles her like a pro--and she never runs and hides when she comes home, which means that the experience wasn't traumatizing or difficult for her! Highly recommended!!

Fur Fusion Pet Salon (formerly Furology)
464 Central Ave, Highland ParkFurology is an amazing groomer. They took amazing care of my pup Doodle. I looked for years for a groomer that would treat him like the special pup he was. As he aged and became more fragile (yet still a happy pup), they took special care of him, extra gentle and Doodle always looked forward to his grooming. If you want that extra special care of your pup, groomers who treat your pup the way you would, Furology is the place. I could not say enough about what a special service they provide.

Highland Park Veterinary Clinic
176 Skokie Valley Rd, Highland ParkI cannot express enough how wonderful Dr. Delli Venneri was with my fear reactive girl Stormy. She was so patient and gave Stormy the chance to show her what a good girl she is. The receptionist was also so kind and understanding. All of our concerns about Stormy were listened to and everyone's kindness and professionalism was outstanding. We are grateful to have made the switch from our previous vet to Highland Park Veterinary Clinic!

Taqueria Los Mogotes de Michoacan
2069 Green Bay Rd, Highland ParkGot a barbacoa burrito to go, that thing WAS stuffed with meat. I say was in all caps because that burrito was not long for this world and has found a new home in my stomach. Last meal level burrito that came with enough meat in it for you to cry at the idea you ever considered going to any of those other half-butt “burrito” restaurants. Not to mention the cashier warned me about the burrito being a little messy?? Absolutely not. The tortilla held strong against my vicious attacks to. the. last. bite. Amazing food awesome service. Dope barbacoa

New York Slices
1843 2nd St, Highland ParkThese reviews are ridiculous. Allow me to settle this.
I grew up in New York, and am a total pizza snob.
I often avoid reviewing pizzerias outside of NY. My reviews would get quite boring over time because they would say the same sorts of things — “these people don’t know what they’re doing”, “the sauce tastes like you gave a toddler unlimited access to the spice cabinet”, “it’s as if they bought pre shredded cheese in bulk 8 years ago and have been using the same package ever since”, “I think pirates made better dough for their hardtack”, “do these people enjoy eating their own food? Because surely nobody else does”
But I stop myself, because the fact of the matter is that 99% of the US just hasn’t been exposed to good pizza. So what they end up creating is about the equivalent of what you might create if you only ever read about what pizza was supposed to be. And that’s hard to blame people for, so I let them continue to exist without my 1 star review that rips into all their deficiencies.
This place, on the other hand, is *actually good pizza*. An extreme rarity for me to say. I thought I had only ever found this outside of NY in Jimmy’s Pizza Cafe, but New York Slices actually tops Jimmy’s in my opinion. You may safely block anyone in this comment section that says otherwise; their taste buds aren’t trustworthy, and you likely shouldn’t base any decisions about your culinary experience on the opinions of these people.
Now, with that said, is this the best slice of pizza I’ve ever had? Of course not.
The sauce could absolutely be brighter and a bit sweeter. It was a bit muted. Importantly, it was very balanced in seasoning; I’d just reach for a more expensive pack of canned tomatoes.
Some of the slices didn’t have sauce and cheese layered close enough to the crust, resulting in a bit too much crustiness without toppings. This may appear to be a minor nitpick, but (a) maximizing the surface area of cheese and sauce is an important metric to optimize for and (b) the additional weight of the sauce and cheese closer to the crust allows allows the handheld rim of the crust to puff more in the oven, resulting in a doughier and lighter rather than flat and elongated crust, as you see in this pizza.
But the base of the crust itself was near perfection. A tremendously satisfying fold, with more than enough strength to support the weight of the toppings. Truly bravo, because this factor is what puts NY Slices ahead of Jimmy’s for me and really pushes you into the category of a true NY slice.
