Megan takes care of my dog, and my dog loves to go out there because she loves Megan and she usually gets a bath and then she gets her nails cut and trimmed and the veterinarians up there are very nice and kind and polite and very helpful. Everybody is at that store. I recommend going to the Ames Petco store.

Serenity Pet Spa
110 Kellogg Ave, AmesI absolutely love taking my dog to get groomed at Serenity. This is the third dog grooming place that I've taken my pup to in Ames and is by far my favorite. Not only is everyone here welcoming and friendly, but you can genuinely tell that they care for the furry friends that come to them. I can still remember my first call to make an appointment and how refreshed I was with the customer service over the phone. For me, that interaction translated to when I came in for the first time. My pup is 14 years old, has lumps and bumps, and can have dryer seizures, which are things I was very up front about. Immediately, they made me feel confident in the grooming they'd provide by responding with the measures that they take to accommodate our older furry friends. Caleb is the fantastic groomer who takes care of my dog, and he does wonderful. He's willing to listen and implement changes to the grooming if I ask, and he is always nice. Overall, Serenity Pet Spa makes the scheduling, drop-off, and pick-up process seamless. A bonus for me is that my pup comes home not only with a fresh haircut but also a sweet little bandana.

I’ve always been apprehensive when leaving my dog Buddy in the hands of total strangers outside of the person who watches him. But I can count on two that do it RIGHT and allow me to not sigh by KNOW Buddy will be treated and loved like he is at home with Ames Pet Resort! I highly recommend these folks for all of their services, they get it right the first time and are professional humans who care for your pets as much as you do!

Doctor Sara is thorough and takes extra caring time to answer all questions. The staff has a calming knack for the family pets.
Impressive is they recognize and recommend impending preventative care issues, w/o pressure. Their prices are convenient and affordable.
I always exit smiling and knowing my pups, Charlie and Sheen, had the best experience and professional care.

1400 Dickinson Ave, AmesKnowledgeable and compassionate care. I came to Ames Pet Hospital about a year ago after several bad experiences at another Ames vet clinic. I hesitated to make the change because of one of my pet's complicated medical history, but the last incident pushed me over the edge. I couldn't be happier with the switch. My pets are receiving wonderful care from Dr. Erin Peeler. She noticed that the previous vet had my epileptic dog on a flea and tick medicine that is known to cause seizures and immediately recommended another medication. More recently, Dr. Peeler helped us through our cat's sudden illness. She described the medical issues in language we could understand and gave us options for care. Ultimately, our cat's health condition was terminal so we put her down. The process was compassionate and peaceful. Dr. Peeler and the staff at Ames Pet Hospital are all good at their jobs and wonderful people, too.

624 E Lincoln Wy, AmesWow! Incredible tacos. I had one each - steak, chicken, and chorizo. All the meats were hot, juicy and well-seasoned. They came with cilantro and onion and 2 choices of salsa. Coming from the Chicago area, where we have so many strong Mexican food options, I did not expect much. But I was very wrong. I’m tempted to drive my family the 5 hours just so they can try this place.
I also tried the chicken burrito that my friend ordered - also muy rico.
Unbelievably good. You need to eat here.

Very family friendly, with a play structure out front and bathrooms equipped with a changing table and kids toilet seat, plus extra diapers and feminine hygiene supplies. The building includes an art gallery/performance space and a community pantry/fridge. Definitely a “must stop” in Ames!

If you don't feel up to eating to many you can order individual ones, but half and full rack are available. The full rack is great to split with another person. The fries and pickles are also good. The brown sugar lemonade is a great parking to the bbq

703 S Duff Ave #110, AmesGreat staff, very tasty food, clean. I love the mobile ordering-ALWAYS DOWNLOAD THE APP, unless it’s IHOP(theirs is so bad and never works). Mondays here are double points, I case you are using the app. The loaded potato soup is really loaded and great these days. The sandwiches are good, but the best one coms out in the fall for 3-4 weeks-the Thanksgiving one that has turkey thick sliced, stuffing and cranberry sauce. Soooo good! Lot parking here. Most items are dog safe/friendly, in case your dog is a real family member and eats what you eat.

Ames Animal Shelter
325 Billy Sunday Rd, AmesOur experience adopting was incredible! The cats were obviously well cared for, and the shelter made arrangements to meet us outside of regular hours to get our new cats home faster. You can tell that everyone at the shelter really cares. They sent us home with adorable drawing of the cats from a local school, a bag of toys and goodies, and really good information that was easy to access. Thanks for helping us and our kitties find their forever home!
