“The staff were so enthusiastic about pets and went nuts over our boy, whose birthday was tomorrow. They were so sweet in giving him pets and a sample and answered all our questions! They helped us pick out a few treats from the snack bar and a toy or two for our boy! We’re definitely stopping by again when we visit Des Moines- this place has everything for a happy pet and their humans!”
“This is my go to pet store!!
I used Authority dog food (pet smart brand) for my two dogs however when I would ask questions they never had all the information. I recently was using the pet wash with my wife and two dogs and as we were leaving I approached the manager Nick and asked about some good food and brands to use with different allergies that my dogs had. He suggested Redford as they have different ingredients and are made in small batches. We swapped about a week ago and our dogs absolutely love it!
In regards to the pet wash itself, the pet wash is always clean and I love to get the dirty dog discount card to save even more money on my pet washes.
The store is generally clean and organized in a way that makes it easy for my wife and I to find anything we need. They have a great selection of treats and toy and my boys especially love their freeze dried treats.
The staff is always welcoming my wife and I when we enter and when we leave the store and are extreamly friendly and helpful when we are in the store and needing advice or assistance.
To wrap up I must say I enjoy this store a lot and always love to bring our dogs in to get some well deserved time outside of the house.”

“My cat got her nails trimmed and got claw caps put on for the first time here, and it was a wonderful experience. It was much cheaper than anticipated, about $20 for front paws only and $25 for front and back. The groomer did a wonderful job with my kitty, I couldn't hear any sort of protesting from my cat throughout the experience. It was also surprisingly quick! It only took about ten minutes, and I spent that time browsing for gourmet cat treats!”
“Just Paws in Urbandale is hands down one of the best pet stores around. They have a huge selection of gourmet treats, bones, and all kinds of unique stuff you do not see at big box stores. You can tell they really care about quality.
Customer service has been awesome every time I have gone in. The staff is friendly, helpful, and actually knows their products, which makes a big difference.
If you want high quality options for your dog and a better overall experience, this is the place to go.”

“I just had a wonderful interaction with who I assume is the manager of this petsmart location. You can tell she really loves her job and helping customers. My cat was recently diagnosed with Hyperthyroidism and she expressed that she had a cat who sadly passed with the same diagnosis and told me that she had the same issues I had. She was very helpful In finding different options for my picky easter and overall a pleasure to talk to. Im really glad she was working today to help me!”

“It’s not corporate so it’s different but no animals r starving or being mistreated. They r not in their forever homes as they r in a pet store. There are many animals here and my kids walk over just to see them and hold a ferret etc. the guys always nice and helpful and this is my favorite pet store and has been since I moved to Iowa almost 14 yrs ago”
“I adopted Armando on 9/27/25, and it truly changed my life. He has been the single greatest presence in my life and has helped carry me through some very difficult challenges. I cannot recommend this shelter enough, the staff thoughtfully guided me toward Armando, understanding his specific living needs and how perfectly they aligned with my lifestyle.
He filled a hole in my heart and has helped mend my soul in ways I didn’t know were possible. Armando came to me in beautiful condition, though he was understandably struggling with overstimulation from the shelter environment. “Perfect shop to find the essentials and more. Staff is very friendly, to you and your pets, and very knowledgeable. They have more than one store, and can coordinate between them for finding that one particular item.
Was not able to test their grooming services, however the setup looks fabulous!
Will definitely return whenever we're in town!
