“Friendly and helpful staff. They can do pretty much everything an ordinary bank can, including uncommon requests like cashier's checks, etc. The starter savings accounts are great for students, as they pay a very high interest rate on small dollar balances. I would recommend opening an account here even if you already have all of your needs met by an ordinary bank account, because credit unions are insured by the NCUA, as opposed to the FDIC for ordinary banks. There is a (crazy, imho) contingent of tech billionaires in silicon valley who are trying to eliminate or greatly weaken the FDIC. If these nutters ever succeed in their ill-conceived quest, having at least one credit union account that is insured by the NCUA could be important to keeping your assets safe from bank runs. Welcome to 2026!”
