PetSmart
215 Needham St, NewtonVisited here to purchase dog food and toys for my dog. Good selection of products; staff were all very nice, however somewhat slow. Fairly priced items compared to other nearby stores. Nice and clean store with everything nicely filled in and organized entirely. Will probably come back next time I need something small for my puppy.

Soft Paws
76 Bowers St, NewtonI recently moved to Newton and was looking for a groomer for my 6 lb. chihuahua. She had a very bad grooming experience at a Petco on the South Shore. She was so scared to go back for a grooming. . Carlos is very patient and gave her a terrific cut. I'm so glad we found Soft Paws!

Pet Care

Veterinary Emergency Group
165 Needham St, NewtonI took my service dog there because she seemed to be in pain. Very nice and considerate to me. I was very concerned about my dog and i only had $640 to my name. It cost all that I had so my savings was depleted. I was given a prescription for puppy aspirin and told to get her Cosiquin for her arthritis in her back legs. I went on my way.

Pet Sitting & Training

Tail Waggerz
REAR BUILDING, 217 California St, NewtonMy dog has been going to tail Waggerz for years. At first for daycare every day while I worked then after I moved too far away, I still have continued to bring her for boarding when I go on trips. It's literally the only place I trust so I'm willing to drive a good distance and pay for up to a week stay rather than leave her with family or friends. My dog loves it there so much and she's not the type of dog who greets other dogs or people on the street- she is usually very skittish and fearful of people and dogs she doesn't know. But at daycare, she comes out of her shell and even plays with the big dogs (she is 14 pounds). Thank you Tail Waggerz for all you do! I just read the negative reviews on here and all of them seem to be people who are either lying or more upset about customer service than the actual care of the dogs. These people care about your dog - no doubt. Ask anyone who knows me and I am overly protective and a bit neurotic/paranoid when it comes to my dog. So the fact that I trust them speaks volumes.

Pooch Hotel Newton
285 Newtonville Ave, NewtonPooch Hotel in Newton has been a fantastic experience overall. I have been bringing my 2yo goldendoodle there for a few months and have only had positive outcomes from his visits. They knew my dog’s name after the first visit, and have been very friendly and helpful throughout the beginning process. The trainer, Jen, has been a great help to the success of my dog’s behavior and has been a pleasure working with her.

Jinny's Pizzeria
1231 Centre St, NewtonMy partner and I shared the wood-fired chicken wings plus ranch dip, allá Norma pizza, and sun-dried tomato pizza - TASTE: 4/5 - favorite was the Norma pizza's eggplant and smoked mozzarella, so good! Appreciated the buttermilk ranch to dip the pizza crusts into, though the Calabrian chili glaze on the wings was just alright. When we came a couple years ago, we were obsessed w the sun-dried tomato, but it didn't hit the same this time -- they've since added arugula, and the burrata and tomato sauce seem different TEXTURE: 4/5 - wish there was maybe more tomato sauce on the sun-dried tomato pizza? Otherwise, light dough and chewy crusts PRICE: 4/5 - came to $80 total. Prob wouldn't get the $4 ranch again lol SERVING SIZE: 4/5 - about 20 small wings in the order, more than we expected. Took half the pizzas home for leftovers SERVICE: 4/5 - walked in at 4:30pm on a Sunday and thankfully most of the seating at the counter was open. Food came out 10-15min after ordering ATMOSPHERE: 4/5 - narrow space w maybe 20 seats. We were so charmed by the family photos on the wall and custom wallpaper; such wonderful personal touches! PARKING: 4/5 - got a metered street spot right on Centre St

Cafe Sol Azteca
75 Union St, NewtonMy husband and I have been coming here since we started dating and I can confidently say that the food and service have remained consistent over the years. The location is tucked away from the everyday hustle and bustle. Prices are reasonably affordable for a romantic night or special meal for a couple or friend group.

Pressed Cafe
300 Needham St, NewtonWe often order the chicken and rice soup, and the quality seems to vary from time to time. Sometimes the carrots and vegetables are quite hard and cut into very large pieces, and the broth is a bit watery, which makes it difficult for our kids to enjoy. On other days, however, the broth is rich and the ingredients are cut into comfortable sizes, and the kids eat it with great pleasure. When it’s made that way, it’s really delicious. We just hope the quality can be a bit more consistent.

Buttonwood
51 Lincoln St, NewtonWe showed up at 5:30pm on a Friday without a reservation (party of 3). They opened at 5pm, so we assumed we were okay to just walk in. They were almost completely booked already! The hostess was able to seat us with a warning that she would need our table back in 1 hour for a previously booked reservation. We agreed and sat. Good took a little while to arrive, but we did order half a chicken and burgers, so it was to be expected. Food was delicious! Appetizers were amazin4g! I could definitely return just to sit at the bar and have wine and appetizers. The music was nice. They had the games on the bar tv, which we could see from our table. The waitress was funy. We had a nice experience.

Tatte Bakery & Cafe | Newton Centre
1241 Centre St, NewtonTatte is that popular chain of breakfast and brunch cafes you see around Boston, known for their wide variety of pastries, salads, and heartier dishes. The place itself is usually quite spacious, designed with an airy, French-inspired feel that often includes countertop seating and plenty of tables. We stopped in and tried a matcha latte and a hot chocolate. The matcha latte was good, it had a nice, smooth consistency and wasn't overly sweet. I will say it didn't have quite as strong or pronounced a matcha taste as I personally prefer, but it was still a pleasant drink. The hot chocolate was similar; it was fine and comforting, but more on the milky side without a very rich, deep chocolate flavor. It's a reliable spot with a great atmosphere for meeting someone or getting some work done. While the specific drinks we had were mild, their real strength seems to be in their beautiful, house-made pastries and the overall vibe of their cafes. It's easy to see why they've grown so much since starting as a single farmers market stand.
