When I was able to visit again on 9/15/26, you could have fooled me that this place was once under 19 feet of water! It looks almost exactly as I remembered it. I cannot recommend this place enough. I easily spent two hours there and still probably missed a ton of stuff. Go visit and support local art!”

“Exceptional Care, Artistry, and Integrity! I cannot recommend Blackbird Frame & Art highly enough. I recently brought in three pieces of art that hold immense sentimental value to me—watercolors painted by my late uncle back in the 1970s. From the moment I walked in, Elizabeth Boswell handled the entire experience with the utmost kindness, respect, and professionalism. For the first two watercolors, Elizabeth helped me select new frames and mats. She has an incredible eye for detail; the colors she suggested were absolutely perfect. They beautifully complement the artwork without overpowering it, truly honoring and maintaining the vision of my late uncle. The third piece was already framed but was physically coming apart. Elizabeth carefully repaired the structure and upgraded it with UV protective glass to ensure the painting is preserved for generations to come. She was so gentle and meticulous with these precious family pieces. The final results are stunning. If you have artwork that needs a master touch—especially pieces that hold deep personal meaning—do yourself a favor and ask for Elizabeth at Blackbird. They are true preservationists and artists in their own right!”

We found some great gifts to bring home and would have loved to get more, but alas, we couldn't travel with it home to FL on this trip. We will be back next time we're in town. The class was small which allowed for one-on-one instruction when needed. Linda gave us the confidence to make our own tiny piece of art. We recommend this class to anyone, whether you are a novice or an experienced artist.”

“The Gallery of the Mountains is located in the Omni Grove Park Hotel. It is in the hallway on your way to the Sammons wing. The Gallery showcases the work of area artists. I liked how there were pieces in all price ranges. This gallery is smaller than the Grovewood Gallery and the items at each were different. I liked that most of the pieces had a little story to go with it about the artist. I saw some jewelry, pottery, glass, scarves, paintings, note cards, among other items. The service was very friendly, and I was there near closing time. My items were packaged nicely too! If you are looking for a gift for someone or yourself, you may find it here.”

“I am so thankful to have the Center for Craft in downtown Asheville. I’m currently exploring all kinds of different hobbies and crafts, and I especially enjoy their hands-on materials and educational stations in their Engagement Studio. On the day I visited they were hosting the Asheville Zine Fest in the Ideation Lab downstairs, which was such a fun and inspiring experience. It was great to see so many creative voices and local makers sharing their work in an open and supportive space. The galleries are always interesting and well presented, the staff is welcoming, and the mission to support makers and craft culture is something I really value. It means a lot to have a free public space like this that celebrates creativity and community. Asheville is better because of the Center for Craft.”

“This is one of my favorite places in Asheville to go for Art openings. Located in the Ramp UNCA building, where students do engineering and sculpture, the Ramp Studios are new, clean and filled with creativity. There is one large gallery space with other studios littered throughout the building. At the far end, there is a new French Broad Chocolate Lounge factory/cafe which is a great accompaniment to an Art show. Ramp Studios throws great art openings that usually have a great turnout of people, with good food and drinks. Some of my favorite shows I've seen here have been the sculptures of Shanna Glawson and Evan Kafka's photography. Ramp Studios also sometimes hosts artist talks. There is some parking behind Astral footwear and some people park across the street in the storage units parking lot. Check this place out! Awesome stuff!”

Even better was how a particular artist working that day allowed my son and nephew to play with some clay. “Located behind and below the Omni Grove Park Inn, Grovewood Village is Stop 2 on the Hop-On/Hop-Off Trolley. It includes the free Biltmore Industries Homespun Museum, free Antique Car Museum, and a wonderful gallery filled with work by different artists, including furniture, glass, jewelry, photography, kitchen items, and much more. I enjoyed learning at the Homespun Museum about Edith Vanderbilt's support of the wool industry at Biltmore and seeing information about some of the famous people who wore the homespun wool. The Antique Car Museum had some lovely old cars, motorcycles and a fire truck, but what I enjoyed most was completely unexpected. It smelled like my grandfather's garage. I stood there for a while just breathing in that familiar mixture of oil and wood and all the happy memories that came with it. The Grovewood Gallery is on two levels, with more furniture and home furnishings upstairs. They really have some wonderful art here. I ended up buying a dish towel and a pair of lovely quilted potholders, and I actually bought more here than I did at Riverside Design. Tip: It is a fairly steep downhill walk, including steps, from the Grove Park Inn to Grovewood Village—which means you have to get back uphill afterward. I asked the gallery cashier if there was an easier way to get back to the hotel. She told me to walk to the parking garage and take the elevator back up. The elevator is more toward the middle of the garage. Once upstairs in the hotel, you will walk past quite a few gift shops before reaching the lobby. If you are using the trolley, it drops off and picks up at the hotel's second lobby in the Sammons Wing.”
