“Small and cute bookstore! Fairly well organized, though some of the labels were hard to read/peeling. A very big variety of genres, including well known + lesser known series/authors! Might be a bit tough to get to upper floor if you have trouble with stairs. Two lovely cats stood guard within the store, well behaved, peaceful, and very cute. Photo is of the poetry section.”
“Larry and his cat Lester were my favorite part of living in University city. I spent a lot of afternoons there looking through the shelves after class and when I moved away, I missed this spot the most.”
“Went in, haven't been here in some time. Glad I stopped in, purchased two books, had some great dialogue. The best Gem in West Philadelphia, and a Historic Landmark.”
“Delilah was super friendly and very helpful in being responsive and coordinating communication in-person information between me and Dr. Parenti as well as fax information to a third party when an insurance issue came up. Great staff at this office!”
“The location closest to the King of Prussia Mall is absolutely worth the drive. The employees are friendly. The store is organized. We live closer to the Exton location, but have been unhappy with that location due to it's rude employees and unorganized store. I definitely recommend visiting the King of Prussia location.”
“Lovely space. Great collection of books. Lots of authors come and speak, and the one I heard a night ago, Paul Halpern, was phenomenal. Thank you thank you for a surviving bookstore!!”
“This is a phenomenal second hand bookstore in Philadelphia. Not only is it in a great location on South Street, but it has a stellar selection of new and used books. Curtis, the owner, makes an effort to find and stock highly sought after and well kept editions. He's also a great conversationalist. I come for the books, but stay for the 30+ minute conversation. Great shop. Great owner. I couldn't recommend Neighborhood Books more.”
“Very cute store in the mall, small but a nice layout. Stephanie, the employee working was very nice and knowledgeable. I liked that they had some cards and D&D dice to browse outside of the book selection.”
“You’ll love this charming collection of books! Plus, there's a cozy little café where you can sip on a cup of coffee while diving into your next great read. Perfect way to spend an afternoon!”
“I came here with my grandma because she was having trouble charging a device she brought there yearsss ago. The staff member was incredibly kind, patient and helpful. My grandma has some trouble hearing and it sometimes takes a long time to communicate. Not once did this member lose her patience or abundant humanity. It was beautiful to witness. There was no pressure to hurry along or buy anything. It was just a genuine moment of a human helping others, because that was her true nature.
It is so encouraging to see people being good to each other.
If you need a book or a journal or a nook (digital book tablet thing), go to the Barnes and Noble in Broomall.”
“Booked has a wide selection so there’s something for everybody. The staff is also very helpful with recommendations if you’re getting someone a gift or cannot decide on your next read.”
“Support your independently owned children's book store! Books range from infancy to young adults. The owner clearly loves what she does and brings in events/authors for all to enjoy.”
“They no longer carry back issues. It's only new comics and account stuff now. It still gets a solid 5 stars from previous times I have gone over the years, sadly though it no longer has that gorgeous back issue section. A shadow of its former self, great staff, though.”
“A nice little shop and cafe to visit while at Valley Forge or visiting Washington Memorial Chapel. The store has a variety of gift items, including several that fit a homemade aesthetic. The cafe has sandwiches, snacks, and sweet treats to enjoy, as well as hot and cold beverages.Parking is available at the Washington Chapel lot, and there is a bicycle rack near the store entrance. The area seems safe; we didn't lock our bikes while in the store and left our helmets on our bikes.”
“I’ve been buying Islamic books from this store for a while now — Alhamdullillāh — so visiting it for the first time, coming from out of state, was a really nice experience. They had such a wide range of books to choose from — mā shā’ Allāh, tabārak Allāh — and of course, you can’t leave without getting books — Alhamdullillāh.
I forgot to take pictures, but they also had a great selection of modest clothing — it was refreshing to see. There were so many pieces I wanted to get, but with all the smiles and excitement, I would’ve gone broke!
I ended up getting an overhead and an ʿabāyah — both made from very beautiful material. They were a bit on the pricey side, but the quality (at least for the ones I purchased) was genuinely nice, so I could understand the pricing. From my experience, Philly tends to be a bit pricey overall, so it aligns with what I’ve seen Islamic clothing typically go for in the city — wa Allāhu Aʿlam.
Alhamdullillāh, the owner and his wife were very kind and pleasant. May Allāh bless them, preserve their business in goodness, and make it pleasing to Him. Āmīn.”
“Toni & Ronnie are seriously the best! I made multiple trips to the bookstore during alumni weekend and they handled the busy store with grace and an amazing sense of humor!”
“Love this place. Best sci Fi selection of any independent bookstore in Philly. The definition of chaotic good in a bookstore. Also-- If you are a teacher you get an extra discount!”
“Nice little book store with good prices and a wide variety of genres- though not many well known books/series on the shelves. I personally wish the poetry section were larger! Organized nicely, and not cramped. :)”
“The place gives you more of a feel that you're meeting at a family friend's house then a regular bookstore. They have a great selection of books for all ages and genre interest. And they have an area where you can go and have tea and coffee while enjoying your book/magazine.”
“House of Our Own Books is a charming independent bookstore located in a Victorian house on the edge of the University of Pennsylvania campus in Philadelphia. They offer a wide selection of new and used books, spanning nearly every genre and featuring a balance of hardcover and paperback volumes. With a cozy atmosphere and friendly staff, House of Our Own Books is a haven for book lovers in Philadelphia.”
“I absolutely adore this store and have been a frequent shopper since we moved to the area last year. The staff are AMAZING! They are so sweet and accommodating and hugely helpful when finding books or toys. I buys all of my kids toys here and they LOVE this store. The selection is incredible and perfectly curated to have wonderful options for everyone (especially diverse selection of POC authors!). The owner is fantastic and has saved us TWICE when my son left his lovey in her store. She knows my name and is so kind every time we go. Honestly nothing beats supporting this incredible local business. This sweet women even put his lovey in a bag with my name on it when she found it because she recognize that it was my sons. 100 stars ?”
“Books Through Bars does excellent work in sending free book packages to inmates in Pennsylvania and surrounding states. They're completely volunteer-run & host volunteering sessions for people to help pick/pack books. Volunteer organizers are friendly and helpful. I highly recommend volunteering there! You can just drop in & spend 30 minutes or a few hours, whatever you like. Whenever I volunteer there, it feels like I'm really making a difference in someone's life -- because I am. It's an eye-opening experience that gives me a new perspective. Books Through Bars also takes donations (money, books they need, supplies) so there are lots of ways to support them even if you can't make it down there in person.”

“I love this bookshop! it’s a cute and cozy place…and i’ve been making it a point to support local businesses and not relying on amazon before they run out all local bookstores and drive their book prices up. If they don’t have the book you need then you can ask them to order it for you!”
“I love visiting this campus (I have been several times as a speaker). The amenties are excellent and their buildings are accessible. the students are great and very locked in every time I attend.”
“Fantastic place to visit. The staff at the visitor center was very helpful. Answered any and all questions on the park as well as Philadelphia in general. Very worth while to relax and take the trolley tour.”
“Really nice bookstore but aside from a couple on sale items, the prices were crazy high. My son is going to another university and there was no comparison. Staff are great. It's right next to a Univ. Starbucks.”
“I've been to this Barnes & Noble countless times, and it’s easily one of the most beautiful locations I’ve visited. The selection is perfectly curated, the atmosphere is inviting, and most of the staff are incredibly helpful and friendly...except for one.
Today, after countless times of ignoring a certain employee and not allowing their behavior to affect me, I finally felt compelled to speak up. Once again, a slightly older male employee wearing dark glasses made my visit unpleasant. This employee, working at cashier number 2652, responded to my simple question with a slightly snarky tone and ended our interaction with an unpleasant "Bye."
Despite feeling uneasy, I chose to respond with kindness, wishing him a great day. However, this pattern of behavior has made my visits uncomfortable. I hope management sees this review and takes the opportunity to address this employee’s approach to customer service. I don't wish him any reprimand or ill will, I just hope he is encouraged to treat every customer with kindness and professionalism so that no one else has a similar experience or feels discriminated against.”
“Excellent shop that packs a lot of goodies into a perfect little store. Plenty of convenience items like laundry soap, snacks, books, art supplies, notebooks, Swarthmore swag and more. Helpful staff, clean and tidy. A very pleasant shopping experience.”
“I really appreciate this gem in Bryn Mawr. It has a good collection of a variety of genres. I always make it a point to come here when I drive by for work! The staff is helpful, knowledgeable, and kind.”
