Pet Supplies Plus Columbia - Five Points
1001 Harden St, ColumbiaPet Supplies Plus was a great pet supply store, and even though it wasn’t that much different than the major pet store chains, I really enjoyed my visit here. They had an extremely large array of dog and cat food, and a seemingly never-ending collection of toys, bones, and chews that any dog would love! I loved their fish section as well, which was so well-stylized and illuminated. Finally, Pet Supplies Plus had an amazing selection of fun gourmet dog treats, my favorite of which was a baseball, which my dog loved as well!
All-in-all, I loved Pet Supplies Plus, and I’ll definitely be back the next time I need some treats or supplies for my dog!

PetSmart
4400 Fort Jackson Blvd Ste 300, ColumbiaI have had consistently awesome experiences from the staff at PetSmart (Ft. Jackson Blvd.) and they are the only staff I trust to go above and beyond expectations with my legitimate (no BS vest, just proper training &love) service dog, Shana. I felt service dog was important to put in the review, as Shana’s coat is routinely complimented by new friends (no strangers anymore) as she goes so many places with us.
This location in particular sees a lot of Golden Retrievers like my doggo, but they will competently take care of any breed.
Generally Maggie or Savannah do my doggo, but the rest of the staff is great as well, and the hours are the most accommodating of any groomer that you will find in the area.
I am sure there may be a less expensive groomer, or one that comes to me, but I have consistently been impressed (even 3 years later) at the care that this particular location takes to Golden Retrievers, that if I go anywhere else….its likely another PetSmart such as when we are out of town traveling.
The PetSmart coupons, reward points, and app are something that will absolutely reward loyal customers, and they offer a 10% military/veteran discount on Tuesdays.
So, unless you have a close friend that is a groomer, you really want to go here. Just please, don’t be stingy if ya do go…..if you tip your barber, or your stylist…..then tip the staff of your groomer. If you don’t tip them….then you are probably devoid of morals, and won’t appreciate much anyway. I hate that I even have to post that, but people can rationalize being cheap in so many ways, it’s important to acknowledge service that punches above its weight.

Petco
262 Harbison Blvd suite a, ColumbiaI wasn’t that impressed with this Petco until… I saw their amazing selection of live animals! They had gerbils, hamsters, a parakeet, and even a cool-looking snake on display for adoption! This was in addition to their selection of adoptable cats and fish, which weren’t quite as remarkable but were still a nice option.
Other than their live animals, I wasn’t really impressed with their food bar, as I’ve seen much better at other pet stores. In addition, their self-dog-washing station wasn’t as large or as nice as comparative stores, and their selection of toys was also lacking.
All-in-all, this store is worth visiting and browsing around if you’re interested in adopting a pet, but for anything else, I’d probably go to a different pet store.

3922 Rosewood Dr, ColumbiaI can’t say how thankful I am for them!! They do such a wonderful job with my baby. I have a senior girl who is on seizure medicine and requires some extra attention. Many kennels won’t take her due to being on medicine and having extra needs. They have consistently met me and her with kindness each time. Which means more to me than anything as anxious as I get to leave my old girl. They are quick to respond when I check on her when I am gone. And even go out of their way to make sure my girl eats she’s very picky and spoiled. Georgia loves you guys and I am so thankful to have a safe space for my girl when I go out of town. I picked her up from a 4 day stay today and she just kept looking at ray and going back to him after greeting me. Georgia can’t wait to see you again soon. ?

1325 Percival Rd, ColumbiaBoth my boys love going to daycare. They love the staff, and get excited going to the back. They nurture both their personalities. My more reserved dog Buddy is able to do his own thing such as sun bathing while napping. He has anxiety around people and they work with him to build the trust. My hyper boy Jackson is able to get all his energy out. He plays in the pool, prompts a game of catch, or just zooms around with friends. When I have his fi collar on he gets 150% of his steps in with 7-8 hours of daycare. When they get home they go to their favorite spots and they are down for the night. Which is amazing for those longer shifts at work.

Capital Animal Hospital

The minute I walked into the office I knew I was in the right place. The staff was so friendly and treated my Rocky with love. I met Dr Stan and he started explaining everything to me. He explained Rocky needed TPO surgery and explained what he’d do step by step. I felt confident he’d fix my little Rocky and he did. He also picked up on that something else possibly Cushings was going on with him. He is very observant. My vet sent Rocky to an Internist who feels the same thing. So Rocky is now getting treatment for something only Dr Stan picked up on. One other thing Dr Stan gave me his number and I was able to contact him at any time. I’m so grateful for him and his staff. Irmo Pet Retreat
8027 Irmo Dr, ColumbiaIrmo Pet Retreat is my 5 star boarding choice, my dogs’ home away from home, and the place I have trusted for my babies for 15 years. Since 2011, when Kaye and Brad opened Irmo Pet Retreat, my Lucy, Maggie, and now Emma have enjoyed excellent accommodations and attention on their visits. All the kennel staff, led by amazing Samantha, really enjoy “serving their guests” and it shows! Kaye designed the facility for comfort and efficiency. Each guest is treated to a clean enclosure (no cages), a raised bed, always a clean water bowl, and lots of smiles. The exercise runs are large, supervised, and scheduled 4 times each day.
They provide quality food or you can bring your own. My dogs have always been happy walking in to be greeted by friends! We trust Irmo Pet Retreat and if you don’t know them,
you should stop in or call for a tour. You’ll be impressed!

Lula Drake Wine Parlour
1635 Main St, ColumbiaThe food was a bit pricier than I expected yet still a little underwhelming. The non alcoholic drinks were also very pricy - a Mexican Coke was $7. I did enjoy the pork rilettes and I did really enjoy the atmosphere and service, so I will still rate 5 stars even though I probably won’t be back. I don’t go to this type of place (I don’t drink wine and would rather cook at home than eat out), so I don’t feel fair giving it anything less since I don’t have a standard to judge this type of place by. I brought a friend who frequents wine bars and they even remarked the prices are higher than they are used to, but the friend really enjoyed the ambiance. The bar area was a little cramped feeling though.
Im not really into caviar, but they have “caviar and chips” on the menu, and both options offered were not actual sturgeon roe (smoked trout roe and something else I couldn’t make out but I don’t think she said it was sturgeon). This stood out to me as odd but I may have just misheard the other option they offered.
If budget is not a concern then I would recommend coming here. Expect a wait if you come before 8pm on a weekday.

City Of Columbia Animal Services
127 Humane Ln, ColumbiaI know this is just a public kennel, but I really thought the employees put some heart into it. It was big with multiple rooms, and you had plenty of choices as long as you wanted a pitbull. Of course they had other breeds, but they are either harder to find, or they were out in the yard playing with other prospective adopters. There was a very nice play area, as well as individual cages to sit with the animals. They only had four cats, but I'm going back in the morning to pick up one of them. They were minimally invasive as far as my personal motivations, unlike one of the private foster options which are more interested in interrogating humans then placing animals. I commend the work these people too.
