“It is always a blessing to visit someplace in the North Shore community that has been around for generations and continues to meet the needs of the community. In addition to the wonderful selection of meats, they open their community parking lot on Sundays for an afternoon of praise and worship.”
“This spot is the real deal! My first time here I got a hoagie and fries and tried the deviled eggs. It was a please to speak with George and Mike, both were very personable. I would certainly recommend this location. Fairly priced for such good food. Words can’t describe the quality. I will be sure stop by again and try something different.”
“My family had lunch there. The restaurant is a stylish, friendly yet intimate environment. The staff left nothing to guess for us. They explained every item on the menu I inquired about. Our person was Moe. A funny, professional, delightful person. The meal was delicious. This is our new place!”

The gentleman at the cashier was had so much knowledge on the variety of fruits and was educated on the store products. Ended up purchasing some great long grain basmati rice. We certainly will be coming back.”

“These people are the best. Good food and lots of different choices. Plus my grandpa lived behind it. When he died they sent a giant flower arrangement to his funeral. I will never forget it. Buy from here and support the hood.”
“This place usually has what I'm looking for and everything is always fresh! Only gave 4 stars because the staff is a bit rude to people who don't speak spanish.”
“The description says it all. But, I'll try to add. Overheard two older latin woman talking about how good a certain cafe in walking distance in the Lindale Park neighborhood on a Friday October morning. So, I decided to try it for breakfast. But, there were three cafes, so out of the three choices I settled on Matamoros Meat Market. It did not disappoint!
I've known going to eat at meat markets add points to the food quality and dining experience often. Upon walking in its a meat market and small grocery offering things that go with meat, like wine, seasoning, spices, cheese & even charcoal. They have small refrigerated fresh food bin with fruits & vegetables suck as potatoes, bananas, lemons, squash, okra, onions, garlic, cucumbers, cabbage, peppers, avocados and tomatoes.
But, wanting breakfast tacos I found the food counter and in my best spanish I order two sausage (they were out of bacon), egg, potato, beans and rice breakfast tacos. I then looked for OJ and discovered they had fresh juices: OJ, OJ & Carrot, Green juice & OJ & Beets. Perplexed, I asked a woman passing by who informed me, she wasn't an employee. Enter Izzy, my savior. She recommended the green juice and it paired well with my breakfast taco; mellow, fresh ingredients & slightly refreshing. I sat in a raised L-shaped metal counter with high wooden chairs. There was ample dining tables and another I-shaped wooden table to my back.
Did I mention the ladies cooking the food were patient angel as I studdered through my ever improving Spanish that I've let languish for years-in Texas, nonetheless. But, I made it through 80-90% of ordinary in spanish, when the lady taking my order called in help. But, we got 'er done. The ladies were sweet, patient and industrious. But, above all they were great cooks. My tacos were expected to be an adventure, but instead they were balanced, flavorful and delicious. So much so, I didnt even use the red salsa provided because the sausage was so delicious with glaze sauce. As, I sat there I realized I was swaying to great upbeat latin music that was authentic, modern and infectious dance hall music, normally produced by large groups of actual musicians at an outdoor festival with horns, bongos and real singers. I thought great music, excellent food, and the opportunity to immerse myself in latin culture, but more importantly practice my forgotten spanish in a real world setting.
Final thought, there was nothing to not recommend at Matomoras Meat Market. The patron was pleasant and kept to themselves. It was a amazing dining experience. I will be back!”
“Weather you just grab a few tacos on the weekend or you grab a few pounds of fajita for the bbq, you can always guarantee that it will be fresh and taste amazing.”
“I been coming to La Potosina since I was in High School (c/o 07') and after 20 years they're still serving delicious food and hand made tortillas with all breakfast tacos.
Still the same great services, and amazing selection of imported mexican products on the shelves. Glad to see a place like this still in business after all these years.”
“Best barbacoa and carnitas, however they run out to soon on the carnitas (9am). Hope they adjust their production levels and make more, disappointed when it’s 9am and they’re sold out”
“Nostalgic, I ❤️ this place. Nothing has really changed just now as an adult I completely understand why my dad and grandma shopped here. Mike (OG) is the man, always a great experience shopping here. Meat is absolutely delicious ? ?”
