“One of the few stores in the state with incomparable customer service, the kindness of the workers and the way they serve make you feel comfortable, you don't wait and the best of all is that you find everything you need. In my personal opinion I give it 5 stars for the way they serve you. If you need a shipment or check collection or something in particular, this store will be your best option. If you ask about Patricia, she is one of the best employees, she will make you feel comfortable and, above all, in an atmosphere.”

“I've been going to the Food Lion at the Hidenwood Shopping Center for years. Their prices are competitive, the store is clean and their selection adequate. However, their main attribute is the staff. They're always friendly and very customer centric. So much so, I've gotten to know many of them by name. Having said that, I'd like to share an observation that I had a couple of Sundays ago.
While standing in line to check my groceries, I was behind an elderly customer. The cashier, 'Evony', was running the cash register. When it was time for the elderly customer to pay, she produced a large amount of change. The customer appeared to struggle a bit counting the change and was quite apologetic for it. Evony didn't miss a beat. She helped the customer count out her change and apply the correct coupons while telling her it wasn't a problem at all. Evony's smile, kind demeanor and patience touched my heart to such a degree, I wanted to share the moment.
If you happen to read this and see Evony at the Hidenwood Food Lion, please let her know that a lot of us customers appreciate her and all that she does.”

“I enjoy and appreciate shopping at Harris Teeter (Newport News location). They're always helpful, professional, and kind and demonstrate excellent teamwork, which is rarely seen. They were very busy today, to say the least. They were short staffed and only had 2 registers open. I was impressed how they worked together; Nini (who is an accountant) came out of her office, and another staff member (who isn't a cashier) both opened up a register to lessen people's frustration and having to continue to wait. Kuddos to Harris Teeter! Keep up the excellent work! Thanks for caring about your customers.”

“Great store to get basics. It has a mix of some premium and foodlion brand. Have to admit the foodlion brand of most stuff taste similar to the premium foods. I like it because it's a store I can get I'm and out of. They do have some hardware items like house filters, candles, health and beauty. Reasonably priced items.”
“I am updating my review from 3 years ago. The basic reason for the update and 4 stars is the pharmacy. I have been a Kroger customer for decades starting in Ohio where I lived 30 mikes from their Corporate Headquarters in Cincinnati. Stores located close to Corporate Headquarters are always the best because the regionals and store management are always on their toes. They never know when the suits from Corporate will stop by to check on things. Having worked in management in the retail/wholesale grocery industry for 13 years, I can tell you that is a fact. After I moved to the Peninsula I sought out the Yorktown Kroger because of familiarity and the ease of transferring my prescription meds from one store to another. And, then when I moved down from the Peninsula I again looked for the closest Kroger. This Marketplace store is not is not as good as the one I shopped in Ohio. They let many things slide and have ordering issues, especially in produce where they beat the produce to death causing spoilage issues and consequently stocking problems. My biggest complaint is their lack of attention and caring about keeping the electric carts charged and in good repair. As a disabled person I cannot grocery shop without an electric cart and I can seldom find one here. I have started just picking up my groceries curbside or having a competitor deliver to my home. Not my first choice but my only option. However, I have not stopped using the pharmacy. They are extremely efficient. I hear others complain about their pharmacy of choice and I don't experience any of those problems. They even answer the phone by the third ring EVERY time. I recently had to use another pharmacy company, because of supply chain problems, and it was a nightmare. It took 2 weeks to get the prescription filled and I only received it then because Kroger called them and straightened it out. THANK YOU TAYLOR!!! So with all it's flaws I think Barney Kroger would be proud.”
