CritterTown BathHouse
2819 Hathaway Rd, RichmondThis place is incredible. The facilities are exactly what you need to wash a big husky like I have and the employees and owners are even better. Their hours changed and I didn’t know and they offered to stay late so I could wash my dog. Didn’t take them up on that as my planning should have been better, but the appreciation I have is still valid.
They close at 7pm so if you aren’t a member just make sure to check the hours!

Dog Lovers Obedience School
1127 Gaskins Rd, RichmondI’ve had nothing but wonderful experiences with Dog Lovers Obedience School. My dog, Bingley, has grown enormously through all of the different types of training he’s received — from their excellent group classes (puppy, beginner, and intermediate) to the half-day training sessions he attends while I’m at work, and the board-and-train programs when I’m out of town. I’ve learned so much from their team as well. The trainers are patient, knowledgeable, and truly committed to each dog’s progress. I can’t recommend them highly enough!

One of my dogs is friendly while the other gets nervous around barking, so they separated them during drying to keep things calm. 319 N 25th St, RichmondThis is our absolute FAVORITE daycare. Our pup Loki has a dog sitter and a back up daycare but Pets At Play is his absolute favorite place.

They always have special events to keep the pups excited and I sign Loki up as much as possible.

Colonial Veterinary Hospital
1007 Pump Rd, RichmondCan't say enough good things about this office. Dr Jay went out of his way to help Rascal feel comfortable. After severe trauma from anesthesia 7 years ago, my cat typically is nightmare to take to an office. We had our first visit last December and all of the staff made a point to get down on the floor with him, engaging very gently. The staff were very encouraging to me to hold him for procedures and listened to my suggestions of what helps him cope well. As a result they got all the tests, labs, and exams they needed. We went back yesterday for sedated dental work and again it went incredibly smoothly. The tech offered to me to stay with him during the sedative injection and while it took effect, while properly preparing me for what I would observe if I chose to do so. She came back frequently to check both on him and me before then taking straight to the procedure table. Procedure went very well, he was back home within two hours of sedation, and by the evening was 100% back to his normal sassy self. Thank you colonial!
Update jan 2026- colonial continues to be amazing with both of our cats! I appreciate that everyone takes the time to hear me out and treat me like a partner in their care. The plan is always customized to their unique needs instead of a one size fits all approach

Bush Veterinary Neurology Service (BVNS) - Richmond
5918 West Broad Street, RichmondI had a wonderful experience with Dr. Michael Higginbotham and his team during my visit for my dog. Dr. Higginbotham was extremely helpful, took the time to thoroughly explain everything, and clearly demonstrated his expertise in the field. He made me feel confident and comfortable with my dogs MRI results and provided an accurate diagnosis. He even showed me the MRI images and pointed out the specific issues, which was very reassuring. I never felt rushed, and I truly appreciated the care and attention my dog received while there. Although he wasn’t able to perform one of the optional treatments himself, he recommended an oncologist who may be able to help my dog further.
While the services were expensive, I can confidently say it was well worth it for the professional care and the peace of mind from finally getting the correct diagnosis. His assistant was kind and caring, and the front desk staff was attentive and welcoming. I highly recommend this veterinary office for anyone in need of specialized care for their pet.

All Dog Adventures
4111 W Clay St, RichmondI just wanted to take a moment and give a HUGE shout out to the entire staff at all dog adventures.
From the first day at evaluation, to each day I drop her off and pick her up, Bellini is treated like a queen. Bellini has never been alone in her entire life. From the time she was eight weeks old up until three years ago, she had her brother who was her bestie and partner in crime, until he suddenly passed away. Then with my different living situations, there was always somebody home. I recently moved into a new place, four minutes from all dog adventures, where it was just her and I.
I had so much anxiety about taking my dog to a daycare. She was always tolerant of other dogs, but never played with and always barked at them. Each day I take Bellini there, the pictures and progress updates from the staff blow me away. She went from this dog who wouldn’t play and hadn’t played in years to this rambunctious, dirt digging, playful, girl I always knew her to be. The first couple of days I took her there I would call a couple times during the day to check in, and the staff was always more than happy to provide me with an update. As she became more comfortable, I did too. I don’t even make those daytime calls anymore. I wait for the pictures to pop up on her report card and I know she’s doing well. She even has a couple of best friends there. Having a facility like this so close to home that accommodates my work schedule, and treats my girl like I would is a serious god send.
So, to all the staff who’ve had the pleasure of taking care of Bellini during her first two weeks there, I am forever thankful to you all. To anyone who is nervous or cautious about taking their dog to a daycare, please Take this review to heart and know this place is top dog (pun intended ☺).
I’ll also add that I love how I can add on services throughout the day. Such as last week when I was able to add a nail trim on during her day. It helped the both of us as she was familiar with the staff, and I didn’t have to plan another appointment at a different time or day.
An additional add, the price when you buy their multi-day packages is unbelievable! To the point where I don’t even miss the money coming out of my account because it’s so reasonable!

DogServices
4800 Thalbro Street, RichmondDogServices – the Thalboro location showed me a level of kindness I will never forget. When I was diagnosed with breast cancer and going through treatment, I was worried about how I would manage everything since I live alone, including caring for my dog, Franklin. The team stepped in to help make sure he could still get to daycare by arranging pickups and drop-offs.
But what meant even more was their compassion. They checked in on me and even offered help with things that had nothing to do with daycare — simply because they cared. They even sent Franklin home with a complimentary bath and made sure he got plenty of love and snuggles while he was there.
Franklin absolutely loves going there, and I am deeply grateful for the support they showed during one of the hardest times in my life.
If you are looking for a place that truly loves animals and the people who love them, this is it. ?
