“Amazing quality hand soap and dish soap that lasts a very long time. I fill up huge jars and only have to visit every 2-3 months. Everyone who works there is so helpful!”
“I like this location when I’m headed home to San Leandro from WC! It seems small but it has everything I want- Parking can seem crammed but there’s more spaces on the side”
“Great little market for European foodstuffs. The pelmeni and meat selections are incredible, I'm now stopping by there to pick up more kielbasas every time I go to Costco. The owner (Jacob?) is super friendly and like, 7 feet tall which is also kinda fun.”
“Great store! Lots of fresh yummy vegetables.. Premiere salads.. Beautiful and reasonably priced fresh cut flowers.. Wide selection of mediterranean foods.. Great selection of beer and soda.. Everything up to and including dog treats! My favorite place to shop!!!”
“Trader Joe's is great, but the parking, though ample, is often pretty clogged by hesitant drivers and limited access. The whole strip is busy all the time, in my experience.”
“Trader Joe's is an old favorite grocery store, if you know, you know, if not, you should definitely check it out, their brand is mindful quality, old school!
Their clerks are always very pleasant, intelligent, and helpful... It's part of the tradition. This store is in a great location, and Safeway is right next door, if you need more stuff!”
“nice small market with a large selection of fresh produce and snacks! very fun to come here, things are priced just a bit extra but that's because it's freshly made.”
“A solid last-minute hosting lifesaver. This family-owned spot shines when you need to pull together an impressive spread without cooking. Their deli is exceptional: think deviled eggs, grain salads, and really good big Caesar salads with fresh croutons. You can easily build a charcuterie board here, too. Quality-wise, some deli items actually edge out Whole Foods—fresher, better-tasting, and more homemade-feeling than restaurant takeout. Downside: prices run high for what you get, and Trader Joe’s has better deals on basic cheeses. Still, for effortless, delicious entertaining, it’s a gem.”
“Normal TJ's experience. Easy to access, has bay wheels station outside, bus stop, and parking garage. Gets really busy in the late afternoons (4-7pm) pretty standard tho as people get out of work and school and head for groceries. Staff is always friendly and helpful.”
“I loved this place under the previous management, but Barbara and Christine have elevated this place beyond just a grocery store.
To be sure, it's a solid grocery store with all the essentials (bread, dairy, pantry staples) and some interesting specialty items. But they're also just so friendly: when they ran out of my favorite cereal or cheese, they remembered me when it came in. They're expanding their produce selection too and often have very local, in-season fruits. While it's sometimes more expensive than the big stores, the prices are often comparable, and I think for the convenience and quality it is well worth it.
On top of that, the expansion of Casa do Petisco and the addition of new events like samba night make this a neighborhood hub too! I'm looking forward to attending more things.”
“Neighborhood Corner & Liquor Store is a mainstay on MacArthur and staffed with helpful and friendly folks. Good Sëlection of wares behind the counter and not.”
“Quick, generally kind and consistently helpful and efficient staff. Lines move pretty quickly. Sometimes there’s a security person in the parking lot, always friendly. I remain grateful for Trader Joe’s fair pricing. Their organic milk is 1-3 dollars less than other stores and they also have good egg prices. Thx for being a neighborhood mainstay for so many years. ??”
“One of our favorite trader Joe's. great staff, always pleasant atmosphere and we even found new products we hadn't see at our local TJ, in Fremont. Maybe these will come later...”
“SACHA
I’ve been coming to Village Market for 30 years. It has always been a special place for me, and Sasha is a big part of why. Every time I see him, I’m met with care, kindness, professionalism, and a genuine smile. He consistently goes above and beyond, and it shows.
Sacha — along with the entire team — continues to create an exceptional experience at Village Market. I don’t just come for the great food; I come because it feels like a welcoming community. Whoever is doing the hiring clearly understands what makes this place so unique and continues to protect that culture.”
“Fabulous independent, family-owned supermarket in Berkeley. It's huge, with a wider selection of organic and natural products than Whole Foods. It has a large produce section, lots of fresh & prepared foods, and some unique finds. They also offer a lot of local, vegan, gluten-free, and dairy-free items. I came in for a few things and filled a whole cart of things I wanted to try. 😆”
“There’s so much to say about how this little shop has transformed into a wonderful community store! This has become one of our favorite places simply to visit, with a selection of curios and snacks to delight, wonderful meals (especially the smoothies!) and delicious bites (the donuts are a MUST try) that rotate with the seasons. Their outdoors area is lovely and the staff is kind and helpful.”
“I always find one-of-a-kind treats here! Today, aside from some gadgets and yummy snacks, I also found creeping thyme, a pink and a peachy yarrow, and African daisies!”
“I have been here a few times mostly for a coffee and pastry. I have had their babka pastry, chocolate croissant and the yummy bacon and cheese pastry.
What inspired me to write this review though is the service I received today. I called the store to ask if they had forbidden rice. The owner went and looked for me and they had it. But it gets better. As I was there I realized I needed some mirin for a dinner I was to prepare tonight. He said he didn’t have any in the shelves. Then he said he could help me anyway. He went to the back at the sandwich service counter and had a big bottle of it for the food he prepares. He asked me how much I needed and handed me a paper bowl of mirin!! He, the owner, went out of his way like that was awesome. I will continue to patronize this market. Yay for local neighborhood businesses! ??”
“I really enjoyed the shop's inside Castro valley market place. They have a bakery, butcher shop, grocery store and more. It's pricey but very high quality groceries.”
“First visit in over a decade. Don't ask, already did. Very communicative staff. I even met and discussed with the owner a question I packed with myself. Great sandwich from deli. I won't be long at all. They'll tire of..........”
“Trader Joe’s, Oakland (Lakeshore)
I often shop at this TJ’s location but I haven’t for many months due to the fact that they were moving shelves and blocking certain area off, especially when you’re in a hurry or only had a few minutes to shop. I had to ask TJ’s employees for help looking for items too.
I was in the area so I stopped by really quick to grabbed an item. At checkout, I asked the cashier if they have the new lavender bag since I didn’t see it and my best friend was looking for one. The cashier said yes and ran to grab one for me. Thankfully I didn’t have to wait in long lines trying to get one!
I would come back if I’m in the area, the cashiers are pretty awesome here. The workers are also helpful and friendly. Great customer services every time I come here. They have a great salad selection and frozen foods. There’s two unisex restrooms and the parking sucks.. lol”
“Grocery Outlet has seriously upped thier game. This store is clean, cheap, well stocked & friendly. It's also randomly stocked, you never know what you might find, & you may never find it again.”
“Local establishment, long time owner has worked here since he was 16 and takes pride in their offerings and the longevity of this wonderful, family business!
If you’re 55-plus, ask about the senior discount!
Let’s support this wonderful, local long term business!!
And they have their own parking lot, which is fabulous!!!”
“For a small grocer it's solid, but if you need less common things or major brands, this isn't the best option. We ended up making a second trip to a larger store to fill out items that they didn't carry.
There was a decent selection of produce, mostly your basic goods.
They also have local goods and some fresh prepped items.
Probably not where I would go as someone from out of town because their selection is limited.”
“5+ customer service. Great choice for the size of the shop—excellent selection of groceries and meds. Loved the chebureks and the beef pirozhki! The lady(if I’m not mistaken - Svetlana) and gentleman there had a great sense of humor, and their sincere care and smiles truly made my day. Thank you a ton, and bless you!
No photos as pirozhki & chebureks were far gone then I was ready to take photos😂🤣”
“We stopped in at this market and found it to be Very clean and organized ?, the fish and meat section is very nice with a great selection.
We couldn't get passed the bakery section without getting a freshly made canoli that was delicious. With a very professional and helpful staff we had a great shopping experience ?”
“This is an EXCELLENT European grocery store! You can find your favorite meats, canned goods, dry goods, cheese, candy, bakery items, wines, beer, condiments, and so much more! Be prepared to spend an hour to see it all!”
“Highly recommended!I bought meet for Passover and I have to say all the family and friends super enjoyed and asked me were I got those beautiful stakes. Also they have so many kosher things to buy and prices are awesome.Service was super .Thank you guys .”
“I visited Safeway with my coworker during a field trip, and I was impressed by the level of service we received. The staff was not just helpful; they greeted us with genuine friendliness. At Starbucks, Elena provided exceptional customer service. My coworker tried a coffee drink, while I opted for a strawberry refresher. Elena even suggested a few other drink options, showcasing her knowledge and enthusiasm. I left feeling really satisfied and confident that I'd happily return to Safeway for my needs.”
