“This place, as well as all Fareways, are soo clean with friendly staff. I won't but meat anywhere else. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is that not all of the stores have the same floorplan. If you're used to 1 store and then go into another, there is no guarantee the items you're looking for are in the same location.”

“This place is smaller than some that I've been to but they had EVERYTHING you could want! They had green tea Kit Kats which are hard to find. I was so exited for find kimchi, endless types of dumplings and ramen, plus everything I needed to make pho from scratch! So excited I found this place and get creative with dinners.”

“Tons of options and unlike Walmart they don't make you feel like you're a criminal when you're walking out by going through all the stuff you just bagged and rang up yourself. And the prices are so low compared to anywhere else. You get your bang for your buck for sure. And they still have an awesome aisle of shame?Thank you Aldi's ?”

“I love this store for many reasons: fresh produce, great Asian selection of spices, noodles and just about anything you could want plus the owners are SO nice and very helpful!”

“Excellent grocery store and a mini restaurant (fresh food items) - family owned and they provide great customer care for everyone - Halal food, PK, IN, Middle Eastern grocery items available (fresh and frozen) - They also offer fresh vegetables on alternative weeks (Okra, Gourds, Eddo roots, Eggplants, Beans etc.) - A must weekly stop for my household and should be yours too … الحمد لله ?”

“I have always loved Fareway; started shopping there when the store was on Kellogg across from the post office in 1961. Employees are always friendly, helpful, and efficient. My only advice is for more training for bagging. I still sometimes have cans on top of bananas, bread squashed, but most helpful would be not packing the bags too heavily. Lots of elderly, including me, shop here. Overall, great store.☺️”

“I’ve shopped at the other asian groceries stores in town and the rest really don’t compare. Uni-Mart is always well-stocked, organized, and fairly priced. I always found what I was looking for.”

“Mrs Ann was great help , i am an old Marine and i have broken both arms and wrists several times , and i can not turn a cap to open a soda or tea , Mrs Ann was so helpfull at opening my tea for me , that is great customer service and she deserves a raise or at least a lunch meal for going above and helping an injured Marine veteran with disabilities”

“I love coming to this location, it's convenient on my way to work and great for my seasonal decor shopping. Manager? Rod is the best. He is always happy and helpful. I come here because I know I will always have a good interaction.”

“My dorm mates were on a hunt to build a few gingerbread houses and we were excited to find all the supplies we were missing. Items are well laid out within the store. Needless to say, it was pretty busy as we get closer to the holidays, but all of the associates remained cheerful and helpful. The parking was no problem and check out was as painless as could be.”

“I am writing about the Asian store opposite or next to hyvee here. They have a good amount of basics rice noodles, rice, indian lentils, mochi, rice paper, meat, sauce, veggies, fish cakes, nori sheets. The place is run by a Korean. The store smells of paint or varnish because there’s painting going on and renovation taking place. Shop keepers seem friendly. It’s growing and they stock up new things every so often with Asian kitchen items such as portable stove, ladles, teapots.”

“Great store definitely feel like they have more variety of things then west side hyvee. Wish they had a bigger one up here like one of the bigger ones in Des Moines. Overall we have two decent hyvees up here.”

“My wife and I have been shopping here for more than 40 years, so I thought it was high time to review this store, especially since their reaction to the pandemic has been so exceptional. I was always a big fan of the store before but now I really would not consider shopping anywhere else. Since the pandemic (and possibly before; I never thought to inquire before) HyVee has been offering free pickup of groceries ordered online. You order and pay for them on aislesonline, a shopper does your shopping for you, and then you drive up and they put the groceries in your trunk. Let me repeat that there is NO CHARGE for this service, provided your order exceeds 30 dollars. I was a little reluctant to do this at first because I actually like wandering the aisles, making sure I get the item of my choice, the best date, etc., but when Covid cases began spiking here in Iowa we started using this service for safety reasons and now I am completely sold on it. There have been almost no glitches or mistakes in months of ordering, and on those very rare occasions that there has been, they have been promptly and courteously corrected. On one occasion, when an item I ordered didn't make it into the bag, they delivered it to my home. Their computer system allows you to select an alternate item from a fairly extensive list of choices in case they are sold out of something, and they even follow a policy of not charging you more for the alternate than the original item cost. Just today, for example, they were out of the small banana bread that I ordered, and gave us the large size that I had selected as a substitute for the same price, which I think goes above and beyond the call of duty. Back when my parents were still alive, they came to visit me from New York and I still remember my father's astonished reaction to this store-- the wide, well-lit aisles, the employees who smiled at us when we passed them (and frequently greeted me by name), etc. He kept saying that there was nothing like in this in New York City, and of course he was right. The staff here is about as friendly and accommodating as you can possibly ask for. When I have had purchase requests I have always gotten a quick reply-- sometimes they can't order the item I requested, but they always let you know why. Bottom line: if you don't already shop here, you should definitely consider doing so. This is one of my favorite stores in Ames.”

“It's a fine Hy Vee. The Wine and Spirits clerks are particularly fun employees to chop it up with. Any time I need help, the folks there are always on the ball. One time some random asshole college student came up to me and tried to recruit me to join his Amway team, but that's mostly just a funny anecdote and has nothing to do with the store. I hope his pyramid scheme fails and he gets punched at an Insane Clown Posse concert.”

“So today I walked into target just looking at headphones well suddenly this young teen boy walks up to me. He says "hey bro! I like your shoes where did you get them from?" Went from small talk to started talking for awhile. he asked me if "I'm from around here? going to schools? and what did I do for work?" I answered back but I also had no job and we started talking about entrepreneurs and that he has a group down in Des Moines of mentors that can connect with me and refer me places for work. A second later a lady stopped us and said to him "I'm gonna stop you right their!" What you are doing is not right, it is soliciting" I said "oh no he's not selling me anything" and he agreed but she says to him "that is against our store's policies and if you want to do that you can get out or get trespassed" I walked out with him and talked more and exchanged numbers because I didn't get why she was mad at first. I'm still young so I'm still trying to get things, but then I did some research cause I did sales before and something felt very off about this that gave off that, I found out it was some (MLM/Amway) social marketing pyramid scheme, he was trying to set me up and scam me, I REPEAT DON'T FALL FOR THESE SCAMS!!! I want to contribute full appreciation to that lady and credit to the amazing staff for basically saving me from falling for this scheme. That really made my day, Thank so much you target!”

“Some of the food is gross through delivery. I had undercooked beef and chicken and the sesame chicken was rock hard. But dining in is so good! Never can go wrong with dining in for some hy-chi!”

“Well well well. My Minnesotan blood was so loyal to target until I got to college and everyone in the state of Iowa rubbed off on me. I now love Walmart! I mean, this place has everything!! I often go here multiple times a day because I let Walmart tell me what I want. I've never done store pickup but I hear that's also popular! They have affordable snacks so I always go here before I show up at social events. I own multiple pairs of Walmart sweatpants and joggers and get so many compliments on them. This location in Ames is ideal too because it's by everything else so it's not inconvenient to swing by when I'm on my way to somewhere else. My favorite thing is I just found out I can use my Sam's Club gift card here too!”
