My dog had a UTI while I was out of town and the manager took her to the vet for me ( on a Friday evening no less before the vet closed) and made sure she got the care she needed.

Chelsea did an amazing job—my cat, Carolina Girl, looks beautiful, feels so much better, and was treated with patience and kindness throughout the entire process. It’s not always easy finding people who are great with cats, but they clearly have the experience and compassion needed to make the experience as stress-free as possible.
The management is wonderful and goes above and beyond to ensure both pets and their owners are happy. Their professionalism, communication, and attention to detail truly sets them apart from others!
I highly recommend Paws and Claws to anyone looking for exceptional care for their furry family members. I will definitely be back!

4005 Doctor M.L.K. Jr Boulevard, New BernThis specialist clinic is a true gem in the veterinarian world. My dog, Shelby, struggled with a nasty infection on her leg for over six months. After countless visits to her original vet, many rounds of antibiotics, and even a biopsy, we still had no solution to the problem and my dog was getting depressed. I started looking for other options, and searching for a holistic veterinarian for Shelby.
After one visit to this wonderful establishment, I received a plan of action and path to healing. A simple switch in her diet, and herbal supplements/topical applications to her wounds brought her back to recovery. Her skin is closed up and her energy is soaring once again.
Not only is the doctor good at what she does, but she ministers kindness to both pet and owner.

It was storming and she didn't have her assistant with her but she came and professionally got my mule stable to transport to a closer barn. She came back the next morning to xray and access him further unfortunately the outcome was not what I hoped for but she and Katie were Angles during this traumatic time. He listened carefully to our concerns, gave us the facts and possible outcome, scheduled surgery promptly and helped us with her post op health care. His assistant, Heather and the front desk personnel were welcoming and supportive. This is by far the best doctor and clinic we have experienced in caring for our 12 year old pup.

The Pet Hospital Of New Bern
1804 South Glenburnie Road, New BernThey got us in emergency for our dog Chloe, who we ended up having to put down (cancer). I can’t say enough about their kindness and compassion during such a difficult time. The staff was incredibly compassionate and caring to us and our sweet Chloe. The vet was honest and kind and made sure we felt good in our decision and got as much time as we needed to say goodbye and love on our baby. The entire staff treated us with so much kindness and they all signed and sent a card after her passing. They did a beautiful job with her ashes and I can’t thank them enough for their kindness especially as we had just moved here and didn’t have a vet established.

They squeezed us in, evaluated, ran test, and gave a treatment plan in less than two hours. Everyone there was so professional and so so nice. My little boy is a little nervous and they all did a wonderful job at making him feel more comfortable. So grateful!!

Rates are definitely competitive and much cheaper than other places we've lived. We will forever be grateful for Dr. Mel and the team who helped us for what turned out to be the last two years with our beloved dog (bone cancer). Great vets are very hard to find and Dr. Mel is wonderful.

Weller Kennels/Dog Obedience
250 Zeb Road, New BernI've had 2 dogs trained by Anthony at Weller Kennels. A hound mutt about 12 years ago and just today 8/15/26 my roughly 23 week old Chocolate Lab. There was absolutely no question where I was taking my new puppy when I got her. It's amazing what he can do. Results may vary, I get that, but I dropped off a lab puppy that absolutely demolished me on a leash. Today, my wife and I got out of our car, walked up to him and her, separated us by about 10 feet and had my dog sit. He dropped her leash, got on a golf kart and drove away. Not 10 yards...he left. He drove away and went behind the building 40-50 yards away. My dog, full of energy seeing me for the first time sat, stayed, and didn't move till he came back.
Are you kidding me?
Anthony set realistic expectations though that this training needs to continue at home. He gave me the leash and walked me what to do when I get home.
I'll never take a dog to anyone else. I drove over 2 hours one way to get there. I'd rent a room and do a 12 hr drive if I had to.
Can't say enough good things, 2 dogs, 2 great results. Not a fluke. Thanks Anthony! You do great work man.

A Dog's Dream
1819 RaceTrack Road, New BernThe dog washing station is super nice. Made quick work of my german shepherd. It let's you sanitize the station before you put your dog in and had all the chemicals included. Shampoo, conditioner, flea killer, everything. Wanted my dog in like 7 minutes.
Do bring a towel though. The blower works perfectly but you still want a towel. Learned that lesson. 😆

914 Broad Street, New BernCrema brew is easily my favorite coffee shop in New Bern. “Variety” is a great descriptor of the quaint, aromatic, loving business. Many choices of drinks, food, tables, etc.
Donovan (an owner, with his wife) has a great crew who makes you feel welcome, taken care of, and more.
Their table activities continue the variety, with a plethora of games, and table journals on the large table in the back cafe section.
Overall, you’ll not be disappointed, one bit, if you stop here, as a local, as a vacationer, as a friend.

Savi's Wine Shop was a great place to grab a bottle of wine to enjoy at our B&B in New Bern. Cammie, the owner, was great about recommending bottles we would like AND within our price point. She has quite a few chilled bottles - just ask if the one you want is in the cooler.
They stock a unique selection of bottles. We bought Black Magic (a split Zinfandel that drinks more like a port) and Viking Blod (a mead that was flavored with ginger & hibiscus) that we have never seen at another wine shop. If you're staying in historic New Bern, make your way over, say hello to Bert (the pup) and pick up a bottle, recommended by Cammie!

Morgan's Tavern & Grill is a restaurant that was recommended by a number of shopkeepers and other folks we ran into while exploring New Bern, so of course we gave it a shot. The space looks like a standard storefront, and appears to have been an old, brick warehouse. However, interior is well lit, at midday, by a large skylight that lets in copious quantities of natural light to brighten up the potentially dark space. The interior design is interesting, set up like a series of smaller 'rooms' surrounding a central courtyard with seating under the skylight. I enjoyed the design and the old newspapers on the wall near us.
We were in the mood for a light lunch, so we both ordered appetizers. I had the NC Sin Dip with a mix of chips and celery sticks. The dip was delicious (go with all chips, the celery is not the right accompaniment!), though I was expecting a spicier flavor from the name. It was a well seasoned cheese and sausage dip without a lot of heat. My partner ordered the Carolina Fried Oysters. She enjoyed them, though the menu indicated a drizzle of BBQ sauce and the dish arrived with the oysters sitting in a bowl of sauce. Regardless, they were well-received. We finished with a slice of the key lime pie, which was gluten-free, so how could I pass it up?!

I wanted spicy (Chinese) and wife wanted hibachi (Japanese). She had the winning choice as her steak & shrimp was ample, tender and tasty. My Hunan Shrimp was underwhelming - not zippy at all and overload ratio of veg to shrimp seemed almost bland vegetarian. Fortunately the Gyozo steamed pork dumplings appetizer was delightfully sublime and we got a dozen for $7. The value was sound for the volume of the meals.....i just expected more from "Hunan" style in my dish. I'm sure we'll be back and I'll go Szechuan instead.

All the food was excellent, and the drink was beautifully prepared. The staff were incredibly friendly, attentive, and caring, making the whole experience feel welcoming. Add in the beautiful space and fun vibe, and it’s a lovely spot to enjoy a meal in New Bern. I’d happily return!
