“I visited their sister store in Bend, made a purchase there, but decided to exchange it when I got back home to Portland.I was having trouble finding my size in a pair of jeans, and talked with the guy there. He spent time checking the store inventory while I looked around and found a couple of options for me to try on. In the end, with their help found a pair that fit and I liked. I felt like their customer service was on par with what I would expect at a nicer men's clothing store, which is appreciated.Their selection of brands is more niche than anywhere else I typically shop which I liked. When I'm looking to find something that's more unique and maybe hard to find elsewhere. The style is outdoorsey, but also have a good mix of classic menswear looks.”

“I like this store! They've curated items from Japan just like a museum would curate things, but they're not just for display, although their displays in store are still pretty cool! But these include clothing items, daily necessities, teaware, and so much more! Plus, the way everything is laid out in store is really fun to walk around! “Where do I start? This place has very high quality clothing basics, and has gorgeous bed linens. But my favorite part was the atmosphere. I have a lot of sensory issues, and this store was a very pleasant shopping experience for me. It wasn't too bright, the music was instrumental, and the smell in the air was very light fresh and calming. For the first time in a long time I could comfortably shop for clothing without environmental stress.The anti sweat t shirts will be a new favorite for sure. “The people who work here are so nice! I thought I'd take advantage of the no sales tax in Oregon, so I took myself shopping since the Nordstrom near me in OC have very snooty sales associates. I wasn't picky, I knew what I wanted, in, out, easy peasy. The associates were very accommodating in helping me get everything and weren't pretentious unlike Chanel across the way. The associates in Chanel looked like they didn't even want to be bothered with me and only one smiled at me because he saw I was actually making some purchases, so that's when I took my patronage over to Gucci. I have a Gucci bag back home that I've loved for years, so I the answer was easy. Love this location!”

“My son turned 11 and really wanted a top hat. I wanted to buy one that would last. We first tried another store - thank heavens they were closed Mondays! I had never been to John Helmer, seeing as I am a single mom. The minute we walked in it felt like a step into a different dimension, one where you shopped from a local store that knew just what you needed. The first hats we tried weren't quite right, and the salesman never tried to push us to buy - in fact, he took several hats off because he said they weren't "it." We finally found THE hat. A black Italian number with an amazing ribbon band. The sales person then offered to steam and brush the hat before we took it home! While we were there we went to look at ties. The man came up with the hat, so I asked how he ties his neckties. The salesman not only showed us his basic tie (which was not so basic!), but then showed how he comes up with his own knots, depending on the tie and his mood. What?! I didn't know you could do that! We were never shuffled off or given less than stellar service, even with me (this was during the ice storm this Jan) looking a little worse for the wear, and their customer being 11.”
