Pet Care

Peninsula Dog and Cat Clinic
8260 N Interstate Ave, PortlandI’ve been a loyal and faithful client at PD&C for almost a decade, and I simply can not express how impressed and grateful I am to the staff, techs, and doctors at this practice. The level of care is *exceptional*- I had a cat that suffered a nearly fatal coyote attack, two dogs with naproxen poisoning, and at least one round of intestinal parasites… and they’ve just taken the best care of my pets.
The front desk staff has become almost an extension of our family- Lita & Karla are so welcoming and warm- they remember details about our family and feel like they are invested in our whole family health. Drs Weinstein, Deremer, and Mallov are *exceptional* in their field. I trust and value this veterinary practice, and consider them friends. Very, very grateful for PD&C, and hope to count them among our most trusted providers for many years to come.
Update: we saw Dr Mallov recently for a diagnosis on my dog’s hip- he was SO gentle and knows my dog (blind/ arthritic/ and quite opinionated) so he and the tech (Rob- we love Rob.) were careful to treat him respectfully and keep him safe (dog can jump unexpectedly off of high surfaces).
I was pleased that my dog was comfortable and accommodating to the checking, and didn’t nip or grumble. We got a great diagnosis that won’t break the bank, and is a program that will both support our dog’s needs now and prepare us for possible concerns down the road. Our peace of mind is critical, and I SO appreciate that this practice won’t pressure you with a “hard sell” on services. They give excellent council, and really and truly care for our pets and… us owners too. I will always, always be grateful for this amazing veterinary practice in the heart of Kenton.

Wildwood Veterinary Clinic
3734 S Moody Ave, PortlandI switched to wildwood from a very long care with rose city vet since 2020. I was not happy w/ my dr/drs there when it came to my dogs senior care. they just kept giving me the same medications and hard to see one dr. Wildwood vet Dr. johnson listen to us carefully and had great solutions and if one thing didn’t work she offered another.
my senior pup I believed lived extra longer because of their care and suggestion of medications. He was not in pain and although I wished he lived little longer, I believe he left when he needed to and after my dog passed wildwood sent me a sweet sympathy card. I appreciate the detail and care. I will be going back to have them care for my 2nd pup. Thank you for great vet care with presto & many more to come! It is not easy to find trusted vet care.

Brooklyn Yard Veterinary Hospital
1280 SE Holgate Blvd, PortlandWe love them so much but it’s almost impossible to get in with any urgency. Moreland Veterinary Hospital
7201 SE Milwaukie Ave, PortlandHi all, my boyfriend and I are here in Portland visiting his family and we have a foster pup that ate a corn cob, at the time we did not know what it was. Dr. Bruno recommended giving IV fluids to see if it would move the obstruction farther down and hopefully get his body to digest it. But with no success the rescue that saved him from a major kill shelter in Az decided to do surgery. Dr. Bruno did an amazing job with surgically removing the corn cob and sowing him back up. We are so thankful for him seeing us and taking on our situation. He is an incredibly busy doctor and was getting ready to leave town but saw us anyways. He is also a local vet which we love to support the local community. I called at least 10 other Veterinarian hospital's and it seems as though Portland has been taken over by coperate Veterinarian hospitals. Their prices for surgery start between $3,500 & go as high as $12,000 for just removing an obstruction. That is absolutely ridiculous and it seems as though they are just taking advantage of the general public because once it becomes all corporate people will have no where else to go. This Veterinarian is considerably less expensive than the corporate hospitals. Support this local Vet they are wonderful. Their staff are all great, very caring and also very helpful. Pat is the Vet Technician that did a great job with our foster boy. The other technician are also all wonderful. I can not say enough positive things about this local Veterinarian hospital.

BluePearl Pet Surgery
10245 SW Park Way, PortlandWhen my pet, Anakin, needed bilateral CCL surgery, it was a big decision. As his owner, I remember thinking that if the surgery gave him even two more good years, it would be worth it.
Nearly two years later, I can confidently say it was one of the best decisions we made for him.
I am especially grateful to Dr. Phillip Skelding and the entire team at BluePearl. From the beginning, Dr. Skelding was knowledgeable, compassionate, and patient in answering my questions during a very stressful time.
Most importantly, the outcome has been incredible. Anakin returned to doing the things he loves—hiking, backpacking, exploring trails, and enjoying life. At 11.5 years old, he recently completed a 29-mile backpacking trip, something I never would have imagined when we were facing surgery and recovery.
I am deeply grateful the procedure gave my dog a better quality of life and gave us more adventures together.
Thank you for helping Anakin continue to live such a full and active life. I love having my best friend next to me enjoying life!

Portland Animal Clinic
1755 SW Madison St, PortlandI took my elderly cat in for her first appointment here today and I am so happy I did. The staff was cordial and Dr. Castle was very professional and helpful. The last vet my cat went to was not nearly as helpful and seemed to be more concerned with money than care of the animals, even going so far as to say they may not be the cheapest, but I should remember that you get what you pay for. While I understand that to an extent, I believe that was not the case with our now ex-vet clinic. I would happily pay the prices of the previous clinic for the care from this one.
Portland Animal Clinic was also able to give me her medicine right away unlike the other vet who sent me to a specialty pharmacy that was quite a ways away. I am ecstatic to continue my best friend's care with Portland Animal Clinic and Dr. Castle.

Cathedral Animal Hospital
8904 N Ivanhoe St, PortlandWe moved to Cathedral a few years ago on the recommendation of a friend. We've seen several of their veterinarians and techs in that time. There's so much positive to say about our care at Cathedral. We mostly see Dr. Jenny - she's the best. She makes such a fuss over our pets, which I'm sure she does with all the dogs and cats but it makes us feel special. We've had some ups and downs with our pets over the years and she's always steered us in the right direction. Very grateful to have her. We also love the techs. We've worked with MJ most recently when our kitten was sick and MJ just seems so delighted to see her. I think they might love our pets more than we do LOL. I was in the clinic last week and one of the front desk staff, Libby, really likes dog. She drew the cutest picture on a sticky note that was an absolute likeness of our girl. It's now framed in our house. Libby also had a magic trick a few visits ago to get our dog to stop crying in the waiting room; she gave her a little bit of spray cheese on a tongue depressor and that kept our dog occupied while we waited to be roomed.
If you're looking for a new veterinary home, I'd suggest checking out Cathedral.

Urban Pawsibilities - Dog & Puppy Training Classes in SE Portland
3737 SE 21st Ave, PortlandWe took a recall class here over a year ago with our very excitable dog and have been intermittently practicing what we learned since. We finally worked up to 1000 acres today (huge off leash dog oriented nature area with lots of dogs) and our dog’s recall was impeccable!! We were honestly kind of shocked! He’s always been so excited by other dogs, he even had to be behind a visual barrier during class so he could try to focus because seeing other dogs was too distracting. I didn’t fully expect him to be able to recall in an environment like this, but he did! We learned a lot of great foundations at UP and today proved to me that he’s really getting it. If you think your dog can’t ever be trusted off leash, I definitely recommend the trainers here.

700 SE 106th Ave, PortlandOur young dog loves it here. He is always worn out when he comes home and seems to enjoy all the activities and other dogs. As pet parents, we love to see updates on instagram, as well as all the add ons they offer. We have used them for daycare and boarding and appreciate the attention to detail they provide while boarding. They texted us a picture of our dog while boarding that his muzzle was a little pinker then normal, not a big deal at all and I appreciated their communication. We also love that someone spends the night with them. It’s well priced, it can be hard to get a same day reservation because of its popularity, so plan to book at least a day in advance. Thanks for taking care of Huckleberry!

Instinct Dog Behavior & Training Portland
4011 NE Hancock St, PortlandMy Belgian Malinois—German Shepherd dog and I worked with Poppy for about 6 months. I cannot recommend Poppy and Instinct enough!
My pup has been dealing with reactivity towards strangers and dogs since I rescued her. Since our time spent with Poppy, I have had family and friends tell me she is a completely different dog.
Poppy was incredibly patient with us and very attentive (plus my pup absolutely loved her). She aimed to understand our goals, ensured they were realistic for us and and helped us make great strides towards them.
I also very much appreciated how empathetic and kind Poppy was when offering feedback. I learned a lot of effective strategies and tactics to help redirect my dog and give her alternative behaviors to choose. Poppy was right there with us celebrating every little milestone along the way. :)
We are both now significantly more relaxed when we go out into the world. Poppy truly had an impact on our day-to-day life.

Doggy Business Dog Training Portland
4421 NE 79th Ave, PortlandDoug was recommended to me by a trainer I have been using for twenty plus years. My service dog was missing his siblings after their death and had become dog reactive. Doug walked with me to observe what was going on in my neighborhood. He gave me a procedure to follow and in no time my goldendoodle was ignoring other dogs. Once that was perfected around our complex we went to a nearby park and he walked with me to practice on unruly dogs. Gibbs was taking their ill behavior as an opportunity to play. I am in a wheelchair and he adjusted for my disability. He is a very pleasant person to learn from and we both enjoyed our training sessions. My service dog is an important part of my independence and Dougs' extensive knowledge of dog behavior gave us a tune up on how to handle this one issue as well as general helpful hints on everyday life with a 90lb dog.

My Vice Food & Spirits
2035 SE Cesar Estrada Chavez Blvd, PortlandWhile I don’t want to give away one of my “secret” brunch spots, I have to share how delicious and awesome My Vice is! Chef Brae is constantly evolving the menu, featuring her spin on several brunch classics.
This spot is cozy, has attentive and friendly staff, the drinks are great and the food is delicious! A real hidden Portland-gem, complete with a fun decor you’d only find in Portland.
Recently, the Benedict special was a short rib, which they were able to make gluten free (try it with all potatoes instead of an English muffin or gf bread!) Speaking of the potatoes-they must be cooked in pure love…crispy, seasoned perfectly, and oh so delicious.
I’ve been several times over the past few months and always bring a friend to experience the refreshing beverages, tasty meals, and dangerously delicious deserts. Pro tip: try the strawberry shortcake if it’s available-the berries are delicious and Chef’s spin on the shortcake using her homemade biscuits is *chefs kiss*.
Whatever you order you won’t be disappointed!

6100 S Macadam Ave, PortlandTaking in consideration the current state of the world/ how many dogs are left to fend for themselves, I could not have more kind words for the workers here and this facility. We Adopted a 7 month old little boy who had some sickness previously, Michael Myers; he’s your average puppy and needs some parental love but he just so happened to be the perfect anxiety and asthma dog, the first night we brought him home I had an asthma attack and passed out, he laid with me and gently grabbed the nebulizer to put on my lap and got a family member to me… I hope to rescue another baby just like this one when possible and it’s best for the dog. Thank you thank you thank you and THANK YOU?

Oregon Humane Society
1067 NE Columbia Blvd, PortlandThis was a great place to have my kittens fixed. I was able to add on extras like chipping, nail clipping, ear cleaning, etc. Drop off and pick up on the same day.
