“Like a high-end "Whole Foods" Market before Amazon took over, local products and produce, good butcher shop, nice wine shop, bakery and sushi bar, a great Central American restaurant up stairs (The roast chicken and potato brava are to die for!), sandwich and beer bar down stairs, pizza parlor upstairs, live music in the evenings, other miscellaneous shops, a very pleasant place to shop for the home market.”

“We were told about this market about seven years ago by a resident of Castro Valley. We have gone back many times.We frequent them for their meat market (absolutely wonderful).They have a unique blend of “speciality items”. As a trained Chef, I enjoy going there to purchase any speciality items I might desire.I must be honest, I don’t shop there on a regular basis. I do shop there when I am preparing for a dinner party. I do go there when I desire a wonderful cut of beef, Lamb or Pork.An example is three years ago, I desired a Prime Rib Roast. I desire a specific cut of meat… and a cut that might have been different from what I could get from the local markets.I stopped at Al’s, spoke to one of the butchers, explained what I desired, how it was going to be prepared.I paid for my order and two weeks later, picked up my purchase. I must say, it was one of the better cuts of beef I ever had purchased. Our guests for dinner raved. Generally, In order to prepare great food, one must have great ingredients.Is Al’s market cheap? Nope.If I want cheap, I’ll go to Walmart and make do.Does Al’s market meet a need? Yep, they do.Try them, I’m certain you will love them.”

“We came here to get a few BBQ items. Grabbed some fresh oysters, meat, vegetables and a melon. We grilled the oysters, and they were all fresh, Huge, and delicious. All of the oysters were viable and alive, and my 7 year old chomped them down. We grilled the gigantic scallions, which were sweet and delicious. The melon was cruchy, yet sweet and juicy. It's nice having a small but nice market nearby.”
“I've been going to this place since I was a youngster, next too the H.S.,halfway thru my paper route, on the way home. I'm not sure if it is the same owner, but Robin is sweetheart and I've enjoyed having the opportunity too patronize this business for years.”

“Favorite place in the whole world to shop for groceries. I buy my cat food here as well. They have enough of my favorite foods on sale for me to spend my money with peace of mind. Most importantly they are open really late since I never seem to get my sh_t together soon enough to make it during daylight hours. The people that work are real quick at what they do”

“Always enjoy coming here for a plethora of ingredients you won't find other places. I live in LA and I still find stuff here I can't easily find there. It's just very easy to puruse the aisles and discover some new flavors you haven't experienced before. It's really nice that a city like Hayward has a place like this. Of course, I highly recommend stopping by.”
