“When I think of Oakland, I think of Jason Kidd and GP during early 90’s, starter bomber jackets and Raider colors, a Mecca of west coast rap, and a juxtaposition of wealth disparities within the city.
Coming from Sea but still the west coast,
those similar wealth gaps are visible even to this day and maybe more so.
When I stumbled upon this dope shop it made me happy to see how the owner is uplifting Oakland culture and disrupting narratives. I copped a dope Oakland’s Own hat to support. As a part of 206 Zulu, I’m seeing more independent business like this one focusing on community. I had a great chat with the owner and appreciate his mission.”

“A charming, accepting shop filled with delicate jewelry, and semi-precious stones, a few of which I could identify such as amethyst, and others I wish I could name. & many other items that would make a cherished gift. The woman attending to the store was congenial and friendly in response to my inquiry about the possibility of a future jewelery wire-wrapping class. “The staff members were super-friendly and honest about the fit of my hoodie when I was last here a while back. I ended up getting a more slim-fitting one and it actually sort of keeps me motivated to exercise and keep trim (just so I can fit in it). I get compliments on it often.
The selection of products is nicely curated. You'll find things here that you won't easily find at other stores.
Every time I visit Oakland I try to poke my head into this shop to see what's in store (literally).”

She had contributed many years of support and service for a specific purpose. I equally determined to honor Proper Fashions with my purchase. As I feel the love all the time here. I left satisfied. The owner's decades of expertise, engaging personality, positive vibes and kind demeanor create a welcoming atmosphere and a truly positive shopping experience. I go there to get my hard to find China Rain body oil perfume that has been a classic, popular light scent in The Bay Area since the 70's. Please support local and black-owned businesses.”

She basically sells only nursing bras, but gave me all kinds of measuring tips and bras to buy and it was all at no charge! Ellen is a great professional and anyone that needs a nursing bra needs to immediately go to her!”
