“I walked into Anatoly & Sons carrying a suit I had nearly thrown away - a quality piece, twenty-five years old, but the style back then was baggy. I needed a suit that would look great in 2026. I wasn't sure it was worth saving, but AI told me two things: the suit was very good quality and worth saving, but a job like this needs a real master tailor, not just any alterations shop, because it is reconstruction, not hemming.

The first thing you notice is that even though they are busy, they clearly value your time. In three visits to get my suit done I waited a total of ten minutes tops and you could tell that they were disappointed that I had to wait at all. I have rarely seen people work that hard. You can tell this is a family business that takes what they do very seriously and only make things that they are proud to put their name on.

I went in frumpy and came out looking, with no exaggeration, like a million bucks. Suit reconstruction is only part of what they do. They can custom make anything from scratch. While I was there, a customer came in with their own fabric for custom neckties. It seemed to me you could show up in your underwear and they can make everything else. They have suits, shirts, and more on hand for quick purchase or tailoring, but if you want a suit built entirely from scratch — measured, cut, and constructed for you alone — they do that too.

A word on price. I came in braced to pay a premium for master-level work, but their prices are very, very reasonable. I want to go find another suit to take to them.

if you have a good garment worth saving, or an occasion worth dressing for, go see Anatoly & Sons. Bring your fabric, bring your old favorite suit, bring an idea — bring, if you must, only your underwear. They will take care of the rest and you too will look like a million bucks for pennies.

Oh, I forgot to mention, they fully embrace using technology. If you are like me and prefer to book things online and get notifications online, they have an excellent system. Just go to the website and select Book and you can set up a time. When you suit or whatever is ready, they will text you and you can book a follow up. I had zero issue finding times that worked for me. I think if you just walked in, they would do everything they can to take care of you quickly, so either way they make it really easy.”

“This business goes above and beyond for customers. Years ago when they were at their old location, an OUSD high school student of mine was interested in clothing design and small business. My husband liked this brand, so my student and I reached out to Oakland’s Own’s owner. Right away, he was receptive, warm, and encouraging.

We’ve since bought shirts and a jacket for ourselves and family.

More recently, I ordered kids’ clothing. They communicated a restock delay and EVEN BROUGHT IT TO ME to make sure I could gift it in time to out of town family.

I can’t recommend this business enough. And everything we’ve ordered has always been fire. The designs are hella unique and consistently great quality. Plus it’s run by good folks!

“The staff members were super-friendly and honest about the fit of my hoodie when I was last here a while back. I ended up getting a more slim-fitting one and it actually sort of keeps me motivated to exercise and keep trim (just so I can fit in it). I get compliments on it often.

The selection of products is nicely curated. You'll find things here that you won't easily find at other stores.

“I purchased 3 suits from the San Leandro Durant square location. So far very pleased. Only issue I've had was thar 1 of the last suits I've purchased from them for the Ricky Henderson Memorial. The trousers zipper is faulty It keeps separating. Just haven't had the time to see if they can repair. I ll be visiting them soon for a black tie affair in December. Hopefully I can get the trousers repaired before then.”

“I purchased some jeans GAP online during at 50% off sale. However, one pair did not fit well and I wanted to exchange it for a slim cut. Not having had to do an online return, I text chatted with a customer service rep and she explained the steps to return the pants, reorder and pay for the new pants and that it would take up to 25 business days for my return to be processed and credit to be issued. Not wanting to deal with the process, I decided to do the exchange at a store. GAP has been closing many locations and stores are few and far in between. Luckily the nearest store was only 9 miles away at the Lakeshore area and I found a parking space down the block.There was no wait and I was able to walk up to the cashier and explained my intent to do an exchange. She said I would be credited for my purchase, but I would have to purchase the new jeans at the current price and not at the price I paid, which didn't make sense. She said she would get a manager to help me. A manager came and I explained my situation and he checked if the pants I wanted was in stock and it wasn't. So he ordered it online and it would be sent to me and processed my return. The pants went down in price so I even go a credit for the difference. I was happy to get my exchange done at the store and not have to deal with the steps required for an online return. It was not simple like a return on Amazon. Though the cashier did not understand the exchange I wanted to transact, I appreciated that the manager made the exchange transaction seamlessly.”

“I've passed by this store so many times and finally stopped by. They carry a lot of the brands I see at places like Forever21 but they are cheaper. And...the employees are so super cool. Because of that the store has a super cool vibe.”

“My daughter had a performance coming up and I needed the traditional Folklorico earrings (aracadas) and quick! I sent the business an email inquiring on their stock availability of this item and they were able to fulfill the order the same day and they are reasonably priced. I scoured the City of San Jose, Morgan Hill and Gilroy and found ONE store in San Jose that apparently knew they were the only store within the City that carry these earrings as they tried to price gauge as they quoted the earrings at one ridiculous price for me and another price for my husband, never again will I be shopping at that store in the Tropicana. I will ONLY be shopping at Casa Folklorica for all my Folklorico needs for the remainder of my daughters Folklorico career. The only major downfall are their hours of operation if you would like to pick-up the items from the store directly, which reflects the one star rating downgrade.”

The staff is efficient, professional, and always courteous, even during busy periods.
