5 Element Food Therapy
308 Jackson St #3, Oakland5 Elements is an amazing dog food company that has completely transformed my senior dog's life. Sharon, the owner of 5 Elements is all about serving animals and genuinely caring about their health. It's so refreshing to come across a company where the owner's passion shines through in every aspect. You can just feel the love and dedication she puts into her products.Norma and Ali, the store staff at 5 Elements are just as fantastic! They really take the time to get to know your pet's health issues. Whenever I swing by, they sit down with me and listen attentively to my concerns. They're like pet nutrition gurus, I tell you! Their knowledge and expertise are top-notch, and their personalized recommendations have made a world of difference in my senior dog's overall well-being.I swear that Elle is living longer just so she can get more broth, frozen yogurts, and treats from 5 Elements. They've formulated special meals for geriatric dogs like mine. The ingredients they use are carefully selected, and they really understand the specific needs of senior dogs. Since incorporating their bone broth, Elle has seen a remarkable improvement in her health. I can't thank 5 Elements enough for the positive impact they've had on her well-being.And 5 Elements isn't just your average pet food store—it's a real community of pet lovers who support each other. I've met some incredible people here. We chat about our pets' health, share advice, and swap heartwarming stories. It's like a home away from home, filled with folks who truly care. The atmosphere Sharon has created is simply amazing. In a sea of generic options, 5 Elements understands that aging pups have unique needs, and they've crafted specialized meals just for them.

Pet Food Express
2220 Mountain Blvd, OaklandThe staff at the Montclair Pet Food Express location was outstanding. We have a dog that barks a lot at other pets. We called in the morning ahead of time to get more information about the pet wash. The staff member said we could do the wash in a private pet wash station. We paid for the pet wash session ahead of time and received a token. The staff member proactively offered a waterproof collar. I went outside and put it on our dog. We entered the store with our dog and went straight to the wash station. The pet wash station was clean and well stocked with many towels and even dog treats. Even though we brought our own treats, our dog loved the doggie biscuits provided at the pet wash station. Once we started the wash, everything was smooth sailing. The water started off cool then became a comfortable lukewarm rinse. The air dryer also started off cool then changed to a nice warm air. At the end of the wash session, our dog was clean and dry. We were very happy with the whole experience. We will definitely return to Pet Food Express because of the great customer service and positive experience.

Pet Food Express
3868 Piedmont Ave, OaklandI credit this location with helping my reactive dog feel more comfortable with strangers in general. They're beyond sweet, learning his name, greeting him with smiles and treats every time we come in. Because of them, he isn't fearful of every random person that approaches and the self-serve bath here is a complete back-saver. I love this place and can't thank them enough for how kind they've been to my pup!

After Hours Grooming
3414 Park Blvd, OaklandThe most gentle and patient dog groomer ever!! I have a dog that is scared of everything, especially getting her nails clipped, before I found this place, it was really hard to get her nails clipped because other groomers didn’t want to deal with a scared dog or a dog that yelped every time you touched her - but here my dog barely even makes a sound. She’s so gentle she gets her nails clipped really quick I will forever give this place my business by the way she treats my dog.

Pet Choice
4203 MacArthur Blvd, OaklandWhen we lived in North Oakland, we went to at least 5 different cage-free groomers with our old dog and there was always some drawback to each place (bad haircuts, or too pricey, one place made our dog bleed and didn't tell me when I picked him up, another place said they couldn't groom our dog anymore because he was too old and bumpy...), and we always had to book appointments at least a month in advance. I was thrilled when we moved to East Oakland two years ago and found Pet Choice, which is only five minutes from our house and they can always get our dogs in with just a couple of days notice. Freddy (the owner) is the nicest, friendlest guy who is always happy to see us come in. We've gotten good haircuts from all of the groomers there, but Jenny is our favorite. She is very sweet, shows real affection for my pups, she gives great haircuts, and they really seem to trust her (which is saying something because they are kind of neverous about everybody). The prices are very reasonable too, so I don't mind giving her a big tip (which you should too!).

4801 Shattuck Ave., OaklandOver all, I would definitely come back and support this business. Pro: I did not have to drop off my dog early in the morning. My dog was in and out within 3hours so he did not have to stay in shop too long. Clean cut over all. My dog is very fluffy and they did good job. Con: Maybe I am not still used to inflation but it is pricey. It cost me 200$ before tip.

My dog comes home smelling great and her hair is always super soft for weeks after being groomed. Taj is a dog whisperer and takes her time to be kind and patient with her clients. If your dog is sensitive around nail trims (mine won't let me get anywhere near her with a trimmer) go to Taj! My dog is so comfortable and calm when Taj trims her nails. 2501 MacArthur Blvd, OaklandAlways a good experience here. So thoughtful about the animals' experience. We recently had a scare with our dog's health and she stayed over night for 3 days at the emergency. She was different coming out. So we set up a follow up appointment here and in the parking lot she immediately was shaking with anxiety. Once we were in the room she calmed down quickly and by the end she wasn't nervous at all. I really love the plethora of information and help that they can provide. When you think there are no more answers they have them. A++ from us.

The receptionists are very friendly and always give my dog attention, plus they're good with keeping animals separate if they're not good with other animals. The vet techs always take good care of her and she comes out happy. We go in often for anal gland issues...one tech keeps her happy on the front end while another does the dirty work. They always let me know how it went which I appreciate. I took her in for a bump removal surgery once and they have a separate room for the dog to recover in, not a crate. Plus there's a parking lot! Thanks for taking such good care of Lulu and making her feel loved while we're there.

We have an elderly cat with health issues, and she recently became ill while we were out of the country. Emily got her to an urgent vet appointment, picked up meds, administered them twice a day, and scheduled extra visits to make sure she was recovering -- it could have been a nightmare but Emily made it totally manageable and reassured us with texts and (beautiful!) photos throughout the process. 444 28th St, OaklandWe’ve been sending our dog Tommy on Pack Pups hikes 3x a week for 6 months now and we couldn’t be happier. We’ve tried a bunch of different types of daycare and walking and this has been the perfect fit for Tommy and for us. It’s a lot less overwhelming for him than daycare but burns way more energy and he gets to socialize more than just a regular walk. Olivia is really great at showing him love but also making sure he’s being well behaved with recall and loose leash walking. She must have the patience of a saint because she puts up with his nonstop insistence on playing fetch. We always look forward to reading her reports after every walk and seeing how happy Tommy looks in all the photos!

Jebena Cafe
2930 Telegraph Ave, OaklandMAN, OMG! This is our NEW order-from/hangout place. NOT ONLY is the owner VERY FRIENDLY, KIND & HELPFUL but the FOOD is EXCELLENT (KUDOS to the Kitchen Chef whom customers often NEGLECT/FORGET about congratulating/commending in PERSON!). VERY VERY EXCELLENT (TOP NOTCH!) tuna sandwich! This place KNOWS what they're doing!!! And, NOT too many places know HOW to make a GREAT-TASTING tuna salad! Many either put TOO much mayonnaise or make it TOO dry. Places also tend sometimes to use brand/suppliers of tuna which tastes TOO FISHY!!! However, NOT SO AT ALL here, at Jebena Cafe! Their (female) cook makes a REAL "BOMB" (THE Bomb!) of a tuna sandwiches we've tasted in a LONG time (&, TRUST us! We've tasted tuna sandwiches in MANY-a-PLACES before!). This place makes one of the BEST ! NOT too salty; NOT too creamy; BOT too dry! JUST well-balanced good-fish taste with very FRESH & CRUNCHY lettuce & JUST RIGHT, well-toasted slices of bread!!! This sandwich ALWAYS gets even a HIGHER-MARKUP/"upgrade" when you ADD their SLICED HARD-BOILED egg to it!!! Their avocado toast is ALSO WONDERFUL-highly recommended (we always order BOTH the TUNA but ALSO, the AVOCADO toast & combine them, eating one half of each then, are left with the 2 other halves to go/for later (except that one must remember that avocado tends to darken if/when not eaten fresh)!!! Finally, their MOCHA & LATTE are great!!!

Yes, it's that good. Please order with your phone, not in person. It makes things operate more smoothly for everyone and decreases the wait time for the crack. I mean food. Well I don't know what they put in their chicken, but full disclosure you might start experiencing side effects if you don't get your fix. Consider yourself warned. It can become a pricey habit and there is no rehab to get you off their sauce. Have you twitching like Tyrone Biggums for a "Sando with training wheels".

Restful Pets
330 17th St, OaklandMy beloved Oakland Terrier, Lillian, passed away on August 21st at the age of 15 years. While I knew she was on the decline due to old age / health issues, I was not fully prepared for the day I'd been dreading most. She passed away very late into the night, and I called Restful Pets in a panic because I did not know what to do. I was surprised, yet grateful, someone picked up the phone even though it was past midnight. Mark was incredibly kind, gentle, respectful and professional. He patiently waited between broken sobs into the phone, so I could answer his questions. He was very compassionate when giving instructions on how to prepare Lillian (wrap her in towels, place her on the floor or flat surface, preferably on top of any pee pads in case of leakage) until he could come later in the morning to pick her up. (between 10 -11AM)PICK UP PROCESS:The morning Mark picked her remains up, he brought a wheeled suitcase-looking container lined in rubber, with a heavy-duty plastic bag inside. Before he did anything, we walked us through what he was about to do, in case we had any questions. I thought this was a very kind. He respectfully waited while my family said a small prayer for Lillian. He then put on his hazard gloves, and placed her towel-wrapped body into the plastic bag, then closed the bag, and zipped up the 'suitcase' container. This was a very discreet way of getting Lillian's remains from my apt to his vehicle.PAYMENT PROCESS:A payment link is sent via text and /or email, and was an incredibly easy / straightforward process. I paid $299 for Mark to pick Lillian up from my apt, cremate her, and place her in a carved rosewood box w/ an engraved name plate. NOTE: The prices are based on the size / weight of your pet. If you want to purchase an urn instead of a rosewood box, you can see what options they offer on their website, and let them know your preference BEFORE they send the payment link.RETURN PROCESS:They will call / text you when your pet is ready to pick up. For an additional fee, they can deliver to your home, but we opted for a pick up because we're local. My partner picked up Lillian's box from Mark's building when she was ready.TL:DR-- Overall, I would rate my experience a 10/10 and would recommend Restful Pets because of the seamless service they provide, and kindness & empathy with which they treated me during an already difficult / grief stricken / stressful / overwhelming time. I'm very grateful to Mark and his team for providing a very sad, but necessary service. Thank you!

Hopalong Foster Program at Marin Humane
945 22nd Ave, OaklandIt's been a while since I felt that people were listening, but this nice lady came outside and listened intently. She brought us dog food and tell me where else I could get some help . She was helpful she didn't make me feel like she was annoyed with my presence and she even tolerated my dog trying to jump on her. THANK YOU

East Bay SPCA Oakland Adoption Center
8323 Baldwin St, OaklandOur veterinarian service closed- bloody Texas corporation owned group of clowns and we began using the SPCA. These folks were kind and helpful treating my 15 year old English Cocker-Molly. Some of her medical issues happened during the pandemic and the East Bay SPCA simply responded with reasonable protections. Molly was well treated here. Regrettably two years afterward, the Montclair Veterinarians/Hospital re-opened and Molly was suffering and in pain. We reluctantly chose to put her down. Still hurts after a year. The SPCA are a great service, Highly recommend.
