House Rabbit Society
148 Broadway, RichmondI loved boarding my buns here. They took such good care of them -- especially my boy who had chronic stasis. I trusted them implicitly and love that they have a shop to get your bunny needs too. If you need hay -- they have it!

Pet Grooming

The Empuppyporium
6511 Arlington Blvd D, RichmondI’ve been taking my pup to Empuppyporium for a few years now, and I can’t recommend them enough.
The owners are incredibly caring and treat every dog like part of the pack. My dog always comes home looking great with a fresh, clean cut. If you’re looking for groomers who genuinely love the dogs they work with, this is the place!

Mudpuppy's at Point Isabel Dog Park
1 Isabel St, RichmondPatient and capable staff! Can get busy on weekends so make sure you book in advance for baths. Nail trims are walk ins and they are absolute pros at doing it — even for my corgi who hates having his paws touched. I’m always amazed at their nail trimming skills, feels like they’re always able to trim down a bit more than other groomers I’ve gone to (some who can’t even deal with my stubborn corgi!). Prices are reasonable too! They’re our go to.

Mau House Cat Hotel
2829 Macdonald Ave, RichmondWe tried this hotel for the first time. We brought 2 our cats here for a week, because we needed to go out of state. We first came to see the place, and were really glad to see that the cats here have rooms, not cages. They have plenty of space for a walk, windows with a view, shelves and chairs on different levels to chill. We brought our food, some blankets and favorite scratching pole, so our cats will feel almost like home. The workers in the hotel followed our feeding schedule for our kitties. Julie, the owner, was so nice sending me daily updates and even cats' pictures, so I did feel connected even being far away from my babies. We are definitely going to use this hotel again in the future. The prices are different depending on the size of the room, but reasonable, I have to say. Thank you, Julie and your workers for taking care of my cats! I highly recommend this place to other cat owners. Just keep in mind to place reservation ahead of time, because this hotel is pretty popular and busy.

Gran Milan
5327 Jacuzzi St, RichmondAmazing food we got 3 paninis, and they were spectacular, perfectly crispy without being overly crunchy, melty gooey cheese in the inside with good meat to bread ratio. We also got 3 croissants, 2 filled, 1 plain, all were excellent. The croissants were flakey and buttery and the custard cream was sweet but not cloyingly so.

Armistice Brewing Company
845 Marina Bay Pkwy #1, RichmondDelicious, popular local brewery that’s got a pretty wide selection of beers on tap, best selection in the area. Busy place on weekends and nice days, but it’s a big space so it’s manageable.
Lots of regular events too, so there’s always something to do when hanging around! Decent sized outdoor space (split in two on the front and side), too! Love this place.

Sichuan Fusion
3288 Pierce St Ste B-109, RichmondSome two decades ago I visited my father in Zhengzhou, China. This was long before the development boom had reached cities down a few rungs from Beijing. Being a Bay Area kid, I was shocked by the cold, the lack of infrastructure for heat (in those days most people had a Wood fired or coal powered stoves that were the totality of it, the language, and just how truly foreign I felt at all of 5 years old.
It was a stressful trip, I was very small and did not speak the language and it was so cold outside that generally I had to wear a rabbit fur hat to exit the premises of our apartment.
But there was one bright, comforting pleasure that would rouse me to get up and brave the cold - the goat skewer carts that were ubiquitous in the city in those days.
I mean my Bay Area, complaining freezing butt would shut my trap if I was promised some of them - I learned quickly to identify the ones that would have the best ratio of meant to fat to crispy skin and to always ask them to put more of the cumin based dry seasoning on.
I have dreamt of them, consciously and unconsciously, ever since. I have ordered goat skewers at every restaurant I have been a patron of since - regardless of what kind of food they served in the hopes that one day, ONE day, I would again find comfort and experience of eating those most delicious skewers. And don’t get me wrong, I don’t really usually like goat, and I have had to force myself to swallow a lot of terrible ones over the years.
All those years paid off when I entered this place with at least 8 relatives as a last min change for dinner plans for my cousin’s graduation. They treated us warmly, and I saw the goat skewers - as if someone had taken one of the cart guys and had them shipped over to me special order on delivery.
They are SO good, I always order two orders of them when I go, regardless of if my party is two or 10.
The Uyghur lamb/beef combo is a go to for me - admittedly, similar flavor profile as the skewers but I have ordered them both every time I’ve gone.
The family that runs this restaurant is adorable and very kind, I think it’s Grandma who is the waitress and hostess, her daughter runs the teller and the littlest one is four or five and she has a little play area set up and has been spotted in many adorable princess outfits. After my second visit they recognized me and greeted me warmly.
Stop debating, do it.
