“The new location is in a good location. Great place to come to get some consistency with all this rain. Cage prices are reasonable. Bummed though that the 80/90 mph cage is down.”

“I've ordered rackets and strings from their website. Deliveries took some time since I live on the east coast. But I've received everything no problem and continue to recommend this shop to my tennis teams.”

“A little note of appreciation for a truly special place my wife and I visited recently in Japantown, San Jose.

We stopped into Nichi Bei Bussan, and it turned out to be far more than just a shop. From the moment we walked in, we were warmly welcomed—and almost immediately, a young man working there greeted us with a smile and handed us a small origami figure. Such a simple, thoughtful gesture, and it perfectly set the tone for the visit.

The store itself is wonderful: Japanese groceries, teas, ceramics, stationery, paper goods, gifts, and beautifully curated traditional items you don’t often see anymore. It feels calm, authentic, and quietly joyful to browse.

What makes Nichi Bei Bussan truly special, though, is the history behind it. The shop traces its roots back to 1902, when it was founded in San Francisco by Shojiro Tatsuno, serving the Japanese immigrant community. The Tatsuno family endured the 1906 earthquake, the forced internment of Japanese Americans during World War II, and the long road of rebuilding afterward. In 1948, Shojiro’s son Dave Tatsuno reopened the family business in San Jose’s Japantown, where it has remained ever since. Today, the store continues under the care of the next generation, including Arlene Tatsuno Damron, carrying forward a legacy of culture, resilience, and community.

Knowing that history—and then experiencing such genuine kindness in person—made our visit feel deeply meaningful. We left not just with a few lovely items, but with smiles and a sense of having touched a living piece of Japanese-American history.

If you’re ever in Japantown San Jose, do yourself a favour and stop by Nichi Bei Bussan. It’s not just a shop—it’s warmth, history, and humanity all under one roof.”

“These guys are the best! Sharks Pool Tables has been taking care of my pool table since 2020, and they’ve been incredible every step of the way.
I had to move twice during COVID, and they were always there to help with disassembly and setup. When I decided to upgrade to Simonis felt, they did an amazing job. Then we moved again, and once again they set everything up perfectly.
Most recently, I had water damage in my home and tried moving the table myself—which was a mistake. I pushed it too hard and snapped the legs, and I was sure the table was beyond repair. I called Sharks Pool Tables, and they completely came through. They replaced the legs, installed new pockets, and reassured me the entire time. Danny personally told me it would be fixed, and he was right.
They called ahead before arriving, told me the job would take two hours, showed up at 11 a.m., and were completely finished by 1 p.m. I can’t say enough about how grateful I am for this team. My table looks amazing, and I’m so proud of it again.”

“Getting our first tuxedos was a big milestone for my brother and I, something we'd looked forward to for years. The garments were everything we hoped they would be. Thank you!

Jim, Faisal and Alex were able to accomodate all of our exacting details, fabric and fit requests. Whether you prefer modern vs traditional styling, or something as niche as matching fabrics across your lapels and cummerbund with that hard-to-find bowtie of sentimental value, they have you covered. As always, it was a pleasure to collaborate.

Last but not least, at least from the experience of family and friends who've shopped here over the decades, Jim & Faisal make a point of remembering you by name when you walk into the store. If you want quality clothing with a personal touch, there aren't many places left like Eli Thomas.”

“Bullseye seems to be a LGS that is somewhat recommended for PPT in the South Bay and today is the first time I've been there. It's surprisingly busy for a small store but then almost all the LGS can be somewhat busy. The plaza is very small and parking can be difficult. Also be careful when you back out because you have to back out into the main street.

The store is not very big and it's mostly catered towards newer guns as it has a small used/consignment section.

People are nice enough and they didn't quell when you do PPT there. They don't charge extra for PPT but they do charge 3% extra for credit card.

I found the price of the guns there to be slightly expensive so I wouldn't say this is a good place for deals. The form you fill out for DROS is online and you do it on your phone with a QR code. It's pretty cool but can be hard if you have a small phone.”

“I got a snap-back from my GodSon, for my birthday, earlier this year and preferred a fitted. Raymond helped me and had no issue with me exchanging the snap-back for a fitted. Got a new Lid and I'm good to go. I appreciate the willingness to allow an exchange a little late and Raymond had impeccable customer service. I highly recommend this location.”

“The best REI in the South Bay—and the only one I shop at! The staff here are always friendly and patient, which makes every visit a good experience. The only improvement I can think of that will improve customer experience is to display more shoes in popular sizes, so customers can try them on and decide whether or not to buy without having to look for a staff member to try on shoes their size. Hiking and running are extremely popular activities in South Bay and on some weekends the shoe department is packed with people and staff members can look pretty stressed out.

They carry a wide selection of clothing and gear for hiking and camping, so I can almost always find what I need. Best of all, their return policy is consistent with REI’s guidelines, so I never have to worry about unexpected rules or hassles when making a return or exchange. Keep up the great work!”

“Ok, seriously, the best team work here! Shout out to Liz and Sarah! I came in knowing that I wanted the Keb trousers because I have the winter version and absolutely loved it. As soon as I walked in I was greeted by Sarah and asked if I needed anything. She recommended trying on the pants even though I love the winter version that I have. Lo and behold she was right, the regular Keb pants are nothing like the winter version, which I was so disappointed by. They continued to recommend other models which I just wasn’t a fan of after trying them out. Liz then recommended the men’s Vidda Pro Lite. Well, guess what, they were PERFECT! I can not say enough good things about Sarah and Liz. The people really make a huge difference and paired with good products, you would have very happy customers :)

I also got the Abiko hip bag which fit amazingly and have lots of room for snacks and drink bottle and I’m so looking forward to take her hiking with me!!! Thank you so much <3”

“Didn’t expect to walk into this place and get hyped, but here we are. YETI makes tough gear and this location showcases it well. Coolers, tumblers, bags, all in different colors and setups. Great for anyone who camps, hikes, or just likes to keep drinks cold for 12 hours straight. I grabbed a Rambler and the cashier talked me into a lid upgrade I didn’t even know I needed. Solid service and the stuff here really lasts.”

“Very nice and helpful staff! We were looking for 2nd set of junior clubs for our son, but not knowing where to start. Steve saw our confusions and offered his assistance. He gave us lots of helpful tips in selecting clubs best fit our son’s need, really appreciate it.”

“This review is specifically about the store and not the brand itself. I want to make that clear up front because I do feel differently about each. In my opinion, the brand as a whole is overrated. The prices are on the higher side and, unless you catch one of their BOGO promotions, it’s hard to justify paying full price. I think many of their products could be found at more reasonable costs elsewhere.

However, when it comes to this particular store, I had a really positive experience. The staff was genuinely nice and welcoming. They seemed knowledgeable and ready to help without being pushy, which I really appreciated. The store itself was clean, well-stocked, and very organized. Everything was easy to find, whether you were looking for vitamins, minerals, protein powders, or other supplements. It felt like a one-stop shop for most physical health needs, which is extremely convenient.

I guess the convenience of having everything you need in one place does come with a price, but at least this location makes the shopping experience smooth and pleasant. If you don’t mind the brand’s pricing, this store is definitely a reliable spot.”
