My wife bought our 10 year old daughter a hognose snake, of which none of us had prior experience with and Elvis took a lot of time to make certain our reptile habitat was set up correctly - it's almost been a year now and snake is thriving. She also communicates well and is easy to schedule appointments with! She's a great groomer of little dogs which can be tricky due to their size!

In our search, we were faced with Marin prices for our simple needs. These people not only understood exactly what we wanted but charged a SUPER REASONABLE rate compared to what we encountered for our 75 pound dingo. And the results, well, it was perfect. Our special little creature was trimmed exactly how we wanted, fluffiness preserved just the right amount.

Melissa kindly handles everything at the front desk and office - her Dad, Dr. Archinal has been a vet since 1982, and is calm, kind, and wise. He's seen so much - his very presence is reassuring. I felt like, no matter what my dog was dealing with, this Dr would have experience and can offer meaningful perspective and advice. What I came in for - was 2 small lumps on her that I was afraid would need biopsy and maybe more - he looked at them and said, I don't think they are a problem, you don't need to do anything, just keep an eye on. What a relief - hundreds saved there! And - even more - when I adopted my 80# dog from a large East Bay shelter 3 years ago (she was dropped off as a senior at a night deposit box, with broken off teeth, so we did not know her past) - I took her to UC Davis dental vet dept and was quoted $5-6k to address her situation. That was out of reach for me so I gave up hope on being able to help my dog in that way, but I'd do the best I could to give her the best life in other ways. It was so scary I didn't even want to look in her mouth from then on, and it was hopeless anyway. Dr A calmly apprised her situation, gave me solid simple, do-able, advice about how to care for her teeth and gums from now on - and I got a quote for less than 1/3 of that prior quote to do the dental work she needed! Now, I feel like I can take care of this, finally, 3 years after adopting her. God Bless this honest, down to earth, family clinic that treats their patient animals like family too!

4280 Redwood Hwy STE 4, San RafaelDog whisperer and now cat whisperer. Dr. Marinho is a gift. It started with our Bernese Mountain Dog. He was beginning to have frequent neck pain. It was painful to watch him. He is 10.5 years old. So that is awesome for a Berner. His regular vet put him on Gabapentin daily which takes a toll on a dog’s liver/kidneys. I refused to give him daily. Since Sterling has been seeing Dr. Marinho for acupuncture and taking muscle and neck supplements, he’s like a 2 year old. He has not shown any neck/spine discomfort for months. On his walks, people ask if he’s two. Now our Ragdoll cat is 12.5 years old and got very sick. So is it hyperthyroidism, IBS, or lymphoma? So now Dr. Marinho is treating him as well. We now started acupuncture and supplements on him. She is so knowledgeable, patient, and kind. She is a delightful partner in figuring out the best options for my senior guys. I’m grateful for Dr. Marinho. Selfishly with all the kudos, I fear she’ll get even busier. Oh well, she is amazing. I just recently got a puppy and she is due for her 2nd round of vaccinations. The receptionist politely told me that they are currently not taking any new clients due to COVID-19, which seemed reasonable. She placed me on a brief hold and she instructed me to call back in a few days when another vet would be in the office and she may be able to see my puppy! Additionally, she gave me some great advice on taking care of my puppy's diarrhea caused by her diet and dewormer. My puppy is now pooping normally and much happier! Looking forward to reaching out again in the upcoming days to hopefully get her seen for her shots!

As before, staff was friendly and helpful and took their time talking with us to get familiar with our pup. Fees were reasonable and you never get that corporate feeling like so many vets these days. We make the time and hassle to drive from Oakland, yes Oakland!! Love this practice!

From routine well-visits, to emergencies, the level of care, presence, reassurance and professionalism is something I wish all vets (and human doctors) would aspire to.
Dogs don’t lie. Our dog excitedly drags us into the office and upon greeting Dr. Siek lays down and asks for belly rubs. That says a lot about our dog’s sense of trust and safety with Dr. Siek (even when poking and prodding is involved).
The entire staff is wonderful, compassionate, and helpful with all of the nervous dog-parent questions and concerns.
Trusting our girl is in good hands is everything and that is what we experience again and again with Dr Siek

A Better Dog Trainer
987 Del Ganado Road, San RafaelWe adopted a doberman mix and it was clear on day 2 that this was not going to be an easy dog. He was very willful, energetic and had some very unpredictable aggression issues - as in I could not walk him without him lunging and even, to my horror, nipping people on several occasions. My dog was also determined to rip my shoulder out of it's socket. Now we walk without incident and pulling. There have been other bumps along the way, but John always handles them in a very calm and compassionate manner. My dog, who is not overly affectionate, loves to see John: his tail always thumps upon John's arrival.

On the day I discovered this location, it actually was not a planned part of my late morning Downtown San Rafael fun day, but it became and turned out to be a very special one - in fact .. THE STAR. And, this coffee joint now is the main element that allows me to call my Downtown San Rafael errandathons my San Rafael fun days. Near the historic mission nests this quiet woody happening coffee joint with some neat merchandise to look at. The staff is quite nice. Back to my original outing plan: following a bike drop-off at Mike’s Bikes for repair, the plan was first to do a walk-in bank consultation, then pick up some bread at Bordenave’s. However, my rather dumb self-drag here put a cup of coffee in my hands. So, I had to go to the more distant Bordenave’s first to finish the coffee before going to the bank which turned out to be a 20-minute wait before a 15-minute consultation. The small oat milk latte was an expensive $7.25 on my MasterCard; the make-happen event that the must-drink-up coffee resulting in me being able to get THE LAST Dark Rye at Bordenave’s was PRICELESS. 516 Irwin Street, San RafaelTheir pollo asado taco is the best I’ve ever had (lovely flavor balance and so rare to find a truck that doesn’t oversalt)! Also, the homemade tortillas are perfection. I noticed a recent review complaining about the tortillas and the prices—obviously written by a competitor or a time traveler from the past with faulty taste buds. There’s a ton of meat on each taco—two tacos would’ve been enough (I bought 3 not knowing how big they are), so $8 for a meal in 2025 is the opposite of expensive. Looking forward to reliving this experience soon!
