“We were driving back from Hana and stopped in Paia to walk the downtown area which has a bunch of inviting shops, art galleries and restaurants. Originally looking for a place to stop and eat, I noticed this grocery store that had been recommended by our friends who live in Kihei. It's a very nice grocery store where you can pick up a lot of healthy, organic type foods both prepared and packaged. I got a pea salad and my husband an egg salad sandwich. The salad was zesty and refreshing and the sandwich was a little dry but it did the job. I was happy to pick up our meal here instead of spending an hour eating inside a restaurant. Don't get me wrong, this is a very cute area but sometimes you just want to get your food to-go quickly and continue with your afternoon.”

“This place is a naturalist dream! So many wonderful environmentally friendly products from juices and salads to espresso, breakfast sandwiches, crackers, wine, charcuterie etc. Also local products such as honey, hand made items, stickers etc. in addition to grabbing our coffee there the last two mornings we also picked up a couple cute stickers. One for my friend who loves roosters, it's a bamboo sticker! And one for my nephew Dillian. Whether you "need" anything or not this place is well worth popping in for a few.”

“Getting there was easy and locals said it was a great place to go...and it was! People helped find the things we needed. Loved that they had a small washing detergent (great for a week stay there) and reasonably priced! Also, get their hot noodle dishes! Whatever is under the heat lamps that they make in the kitchen is AMAZING! We got a pad thai of sorts and it was sooo good and such a large serving we used the left over in our breakfast eggs! They had quite the variety of stuff there to get, so even though Google can't say if it has everything you want, I'd go and check because well enough they will have it or tell you where to go and get it. Very helpful people. Mahalo Superette ?”

“Staying at Banana Bungalow and I asked where's the nearest poke spot that's fresh, and truly underrated. They recommended Takamiya Market and I'm so glad I'm listened. Picked up their Salt Ahi Poke. It was so dang good. I'm definitely picking up another round before I leave.”

“Absolutely beautiful store with so many great options for gifts and general goods. Stopped in when I was traveling and wanted more for holiday gifts after I got back to the mainland. After emailing, multiple people reached out to work with me personally to help me out and find exactly what I was looking for, including sending pictures to help make the process easier. I love this store so much, definitely stop by or visit the website for gifts.”

This little grocery store has so many things for sale you can always find what you need, from fresh meats and veggies to pet foods and more. HUGE selection of adult beverages too. The staff are always helpful and friendly. Loads of parking in this old cannery spot.”

“This was my husband and I second tour with Maui Gold. We went last year and loved it so much we decided to go again and take our family. We were surprised the ownership had changed, but that didn't make a difference. Our tour was fun, and our driver was very knowledgeable and funny. You are picked up in front of the Pineapple store in a small bus and then driven across the street where you will see all different sizes of pineapples.Getting out of the bus for pictures and trying the pineapples is always the best part. You also learn a lot about the history of the farm and the employees. At the end of the tour, the driver takes us to the building where all the pineapples are ready to be shipped out in boxes and where we also get our own pineapple in a box to take home that is TSA approved. If you want to take your pineapples home, I recommend doing the tour on your last days in Maui.We also took advantage of their monthly subscription box of Pineapples and love it!”

“Great health food store. We needed a supper after a long day and there was plenty of vegan/vegetarian options that the kids even liked. Liked the fake fish sandwich. Great smoothies too. Would definitely recommend.”

“Having the convenience of a neighborhood grocery store is fantastic, and the employees are extremely helpful. You can't beat the poke and the "parking lot" barbecue items. ?”

“No one could be nicer than the couple that owns this store. I have been a regular customer for over 10 years, visiting at least 2X a month. Real local style, soft spoken and modest. They carry what moves in the Maui Korean food market and not too many odd ball stuff. Best on the island.”

“Today, my son and I ordered from the poke counter and were assisted by “Carter” (I hope I have his name right). He was so helpful and friendly. I’ve never had a negative experience with anyone there, but for some reason his positivity really stood out. There seems to be a lot of tension and negativity out there lately, so Thank you Carter for being a bright spot in our day!! And, of course, the poke was delicious as always.”

“Love this store, especially the poke counter. It's my little treat to myself, always fresh and so ono. The lady with the painted on eyebrows could be a little friendlier, honestly not sure why they put her in a customer service position. I'm in here every couple few weeks for months now and never get a hello or a smile or anything from her. The girl that worked the counter before was much nicer to interact with. But no matta, the poke still ono! Luckily the grocery cashiers are friendly too. Good sale prices on regular grocery items, and good liquor & wine selection, even though I barely drink these days lol. Gotta love Tamura's. ?”

“I'm visiting from California and I'm used to getting great salsa. I spotted Tiffany's Salsa at Safeway and decided to give it a try. I wasn't expecting much since the Islands have traditionally had mediocre Mexican food. Wow, was I wrong. This stuff is great. I'm going to stop on my way to the airport to grab some to take home. Tiffany, if you're reading these, you should put take home packs at the airport along side the pineapples and Maui onions.”

“If you live in upcountry this is one of the few grocery stores. They are pricey for sure but have great prepared food options, poke bar, musubi and bento, pizzas, fried chicken. The cashiers are full of aloha and you feel welcome. They get plenty shopping bag designs too so if you like to collect em all, this is a good spot. Parking is easily available.”

“Having lived in Hawaii for 35 years I can easily say, this is my very favorite place to shop, it's a wonderful slice of Aloha. Mike, Paul, Noe and Amanda run a very warm and inviting, and just plane cute, place to shop.I always leave laughing and feeling good. I could name the other wonderful people there but it would be arduous, just know they are terrific. If you smile, they'll smile.”

“This is a decent Safeway - maybe a level 2? I shopped around Target, Walmart, and Costco and I think this Safeway had a larger variety of local, made in Hawaii/Maui products. The chocolates are cheaper at Costco and Target though. I like that this location was easy to drive in and out of and that there is a gas station.”

4.4 Superb15 Reviews

“I am not a huge fan of Safeway stores, but they are usually in convenient locations and offer a lot of selection, maybe too much selection. I do frequent the sushi options, the bakery, and sometimes vegetables if they are local. You really have to shop around for bargains, as I find prices here are higher than other outlets. But when they have premium ice cream on sale, stock up!”

“This unassuming Asian market is located on Lower Main St. in Wailuku and carries mainly Filipino offerings, but other Asian and local products as well. There's some interesting finds here if you take the time to look around and they have more variety than some of the other little Asian markets around town. My favorites are of course, the snacks. From chips to chocolates - many of their products remind me of my childhood vacations in the Philippines. They also have a hot food line that feature your typical Filipino dishes like pork n peas, dinakdakan, adobo, chicharon, empanada, lumpia, and more. You can get them in plate lunch style form or containers to serve as entrees. What I really come here for though is the Mais Con Yelo -- the only place I know on island that offers this delectable cool treat. Mais Con Yelo is a layered, Filipino dessert that consists of sweet corn, shaved ice, evaporated milk, leche flan, and a scoop of CORN & CHEESE ice cream. I love corn and cheese ice cream and the whole combo of ice and evaporated milk are SO good! It's similar to a halo halo, but with corn. For whatever reason, the last time I got it, the aunty made it so so good that I can't stop thinking about it and will probably go get more tomorrow. Hahah. Speaking of ice cream, they also have the Magnolia boba ice creams here in various flavors and I really, really like that ice cream. I've only seen it around a few stores here so if you like that, you can find it here too.Check them out sometime!”

“All that's left of the century old favorite local store. No longer owned by the Age Took family. New name is Kahului Shopping Center Supermarket. Of course, it will still be known as Ah Fool's for a long time to come.”
