1701 Goose Hollow Rd, NewlandGreat spot for sandwiches and other lunch fare! My faves are the Patio Club and the Reuben. They also have an excellent hot dog. Friendly service, and if youre playing golf you can place your order from the 7th tee and they'll have it ready at the turn! This year breakfast is available (delicious) and they're open until 6pm. Seasonal hours, though. Closed in the winter.

279 New Vale Rd, NewlandI visit this humane society every time I'm in town. The staff is always friendly and helpful, even if you are just there for a visit and not ready to adopt. I love their free-roaming cat rooms and the scenic walking trail for the dogs.
