“Not only did I find my dream dress and a beautiful veil to go with it, but I also found a dress for my older sister and my mom. Everyone working there including the owner was incredibly nice and uplifting. Not only did we find so many amazing dresses they were all incredibly affordable! All 4 items were under $300, my dress alone was only $49! Knowing they’re also a nonprofit for a super important cause was just the cherry on top. I believe that anyone looking for beautiful dresses would have an incredible time here; the prices, the service, it was all amazing.”

“Our experience at Birch has been incredible! This is our second time being a part of this community. We had moved away and it became too difficult to be there... But as soon as we moved back in the area we joined back up with this amazing community! Our 14 year old daughter has found a lot of excitement and confidence in being able to volunteer! Birch allows us to be able to save money every month on groceries and put that money towards bills and other needs for our family of six! The staff is incredible and the opportunities to learn about finances, becoming financially literate, and being able to pass that to our children are of such a high value to us!! We appreciate them so much! And we are so thankful for the opportunity to be a part of this amazing community! They are growing with more opportunities constantly!”

“This is the cheapest place to fix your bike and also the fastest. A bike shop might hold your bike for a week or two to fix it. You fix your own bike in minutes. They teach you how to fix your bike. They have all kinds of parts at the cheapest prices in Portland. They have all of the tools you'll need and they show you how to use them. Every person I talked to there was helpful and nice. The thing is, you have to be willing to learn how to fix your bike. I will definitely go back and tell my friends. I've been working on bikes for decades, but I learn way faster from these people.”

“I don't leave reviews often but I had to leave one after my experience yesterday. I bought tickets for Fat Ham for my friend's birthday and I thought the show started at 2:30 not 2. We got there and the doors were locked and I started to panic bc I am tight on money so I couldn't just eat the cost of the tickets. Luckily someone who works there was outside and he was very kind to us. I told him I was so stupid, and he was like no you are not, go up to the desk and they will help you. I go up to the desk and the woman there was just as kind! I again lamented about my stupidity for not knowing what time the show started and she quickly offered to let us in or trade our tickets for the 730 show. She even moved our seats closer to the stage. I was literally blown away by the customer service I received. My friend and I got to spend her birthday walking around Portland on a beautiful sunny day and then ended it with a PHENOMENAL PERFORMANCE!!!! I will 100% be returning to this venue. The customer service alone will keep me as a patron for a long time.”

“Over the past few years Open Signal has changed from being a big part of the larger indie film/art scene in Portland (with some activist programs), to being exclusively an activist organization.Part of that transition involved excluding most of the population of Portland from being able to participate in most opportunities they offer, on the basis of skin color.Apparently these changes were decided at the city level.I think what leaves a bad taste in my mouth about all of this is how “zero sum” this played out being. Did we really need to cancel one group to support another? I think there could have been tons of ways for both groups to have gotten what they want, and for them to even have had a healthy amount of overlap. The activist side that has more strict participation requirements could have been a branch of Open Signal. Or with Portland’s rapidly increasing and higher income population, there could have been an additional center opened with the higher tax revenue.But for the people in charge, they decided what was best was to close off a very functioning and long standing institution, and to replace it with another (that happens to share the same name). Things like that don’t leave people very happy.Open Signal, in their own way of saying it, now recommends white creators to use a different public access station in Gresham instead. I suppose I can do that. It’s far, and probably not as well funded. But better than nothing.Here’s to progress…”

“This is an amazing resource for teachers! At the beginning of the year there are really nice materials available. As the year goes on, it is not as nice. Sometimes the staff are not super friendly, but it could just be the repetitive job they have. I appreciate being able to get things for my classroom.”
