“I come to Mow Lee to purchase their best cured meats all the time. This is one of the main reasons I visited San Francisco Chinatown even during the pandemic years. I like their cured duck, cured meat, and lap cheony (Chinese sausage). They are made there using the traditional Chinese method—the best-tasting in California, in my opinion. The store is old but clean. The lady there is very friendly and knowledgeable. Mow Lee is one of the best stores in town when it comes to cured meats.”

“This is an awesome family-owned grocery store if you're looking for international ingredients: East Asian, Southeast Asian, South Asian, Mediterranean, African. If they don't have what you're looking for, they take requests and might just be able to help you! Some things I've been getting here that have been hard to find elsewhere: pandan leaves, kaffir lime leaves, galangal, Thai basil, lemongrass, Thai chili (chili padi/bird's eye chili), century eggs, a huge array of Japanese noodles like somen and udon, harissa. And I feel like I discover more ingredients every time I visit!”

“We ordered: - 8 Whole Boxes of Povi Masima We've been coming to Robert's Corned Meats to get our Povi for years, literally since I was a child. It is also the oldest corned beef company established in San Francisco as well. We only like to get our Povi from Roberts Corned Meats because the quality of it beats anywhere else. I've tried other Povi Masimas and can taste the difference. NOBODY and I mean NOBODY is touching Robert's Corned Meats. The gentleman Edgar I believe was his name had helped us as we did an over the phone order for 8 whole boxes and asked them to seal each one as we were sending the boxes to family overseas. The transaction was very fast as always! Sign a paper, provide the money and wait for your boxes to come out. Boom, done! Each time we get an order, the worker always provides the service to load our car with the Povi which is such a huge plus! We really appreciate the generosity and great service each visit! This is why this place gets such a high rating, the service is top tier and the meats are top notch! The parking is super rough as it's on one of the busiest streets in the city near the freeways but trust me it's worth the struggle. There is an alleyway around the corner of the building you can park in but it is a hit or miss. It is also cash preferred/only as well! The inside of the place is always clear and neutral setting. I love that it has so many old school pictures to view! It's also very clean as well! They offer so many other meats as well, sausages, bacon, linguica, pastrami, brisket, beef tongue, pork legs and cooked meats. I might be missing a few but I'm telling you, this is the place to get your meats. It's truly worth it! There is a reason Roberts Corned Meats are still in business for so many years, they are the real deal. Thank you Roberts Corned Meats for your amazing service and items served, you've placed a mark on a lot of us Polynesians - specifically my Samoan people. The functions won't ever be the same without your Povi Masima! I hope you all look into this place and love it just as my family and folks do. You won't regret it.”

“I’ve bought meat from here (chicken and beef) at least three times. The first time, there was a Muslim brother at the register who helped me out and told me a little about the store’s origins. This was back in early 2024 and the store had been around for at least 1 year before I found it. Other times I have gone are after midday prayer. On those trips, the folks behind the counter are not Muslim and don’t know much about how the meat is butchered. Once I was helped by a nice lady who was more comfortable speaking Spanish than English. We made it work. Se habla español or take Google Translate with your to be safe. It is the Mission after all.”

“Why did the chicken cross the road? Well, it was me to cross the street to buy a couple of fresh chickens for my family during shelter in place. The beauty of shopping in Chinatown is getting things fresh. On this block alone, there are no less than four stores that sell fresh poultry aka chicken. I remember, as a child, walking along this block in wonderment as I stared at the live chickens in wooden cages. When I asked my mom, can we bring one home, I naively thought her affirmative answer was as a pet. Naïve alright.Anyway, back to the review, this place is not for the squeamish or bacteria sensitive people, not to say it isn't clean. Like any fresh food supplier whether seafood or butcher shop, there will be visuals of blood and guts in some form. My mom insists on free range chickens so I walked to the open refrigerated case to select two prebagged chickens; luckily I can read a little Chinese. I took them to the cashier window and paid the gentleman as he bagged my purchase. In and out in less than five minutes. The other stores south of here are more product friendly as there is a salesperson who helps you if you want to purchase only particular chicken parts (breast, thighs and drumsticks, wings, baby drummettes, etc.). Since my family uses it mainly for soup broth and making porridge, this was perfect for us. Glad they remained open through shelter in place.”
