Tails
745 Higuera St #3512, San Luis ObispoBubba and I had so much fun checking out this store. He loved the variety of smells, treats and toys and was wagging his tail more than usual! The employees are so kind and gave my dog space to sniff around and also gave him some treats that he loved very much! I appreciate all of the alternative treats here to the normal toxic treats we usually have to watch out for. I like that I can trust that whatever I pick up in the store will be good for my dog. We will be visiting every time we drive by. Thank you for creating a wonderful place for both my dog and me to shop!

Pet Grooming

Bowser Boutique
715 Santa Maria Ave e, San Luis ObispoFirst time here for my 2 white Bichon /Poos. Fantastic job! I just moved to SLO 5 months ago so the dogs were looking more like sheep..... now they look and feel wonderful. Definitely a 5-star groomer.

PuppyCuts Too
175 Tank Farm Rd, San Luis ObispoI will not bring my dog, or cat, anywhere else! Their pricing is reasonable, every dog is different and some need special attention. This is exactly the place to get that. Places like petsmart are not 1on1 like Puppy Cuts Too is. Big corporation salons are stressful on the dog, and the groomer too. Especially if you come in late, they have to rush in order not to back up their whole day. I’ve had it happen before with my dog having to stay longer because they couldn’t say no to the previous dog who came in late. I learned the hard way. Plus they’re one of the only places that take cats A++++

Doggie Salon & Spa
2252 Broad St Suite 120, San Luis ObispoMy pup is a small chihuahua terrier mix who has trust issues with strangers, but she absolutely adores Lexi her groomer. Lexi takes her time and makes sure little Appa feels comfortable and as a result she comes out looking so clean and adorable every time! Appa usually struggles a lot at home when we try to trim her, she has long hair so she gets tangles around her leg joints and tail, but when she goes to Lexi she comes back clean and fresh with no more tangles. I’m so grateful they can get her to cooperate, it’s so refreshing for the summer weather for Appa to have a short haircut and have her legs short so she doesn’t pick up as many stickers and twigs on our walks.
The pics are her before and after. ?

Pet Care

Cuesta Park Animal Hospital
2404 Loomis St, San Luis Obispoour dog has had such good care and I never feel that I am trying to be "up sold" and encouraged to get more tests, buy more products etc. Also, while at the hospital my husband had a mini health issue. The staff did not feel that he should drive home, so they volunteered to drive him home with our dog who had been treated. Someone followed the car in order to drive the person back to the facility. This was way above and beyond what would have been expected. Cannot say enough good things about the personnel and of course the excellent quality of care for our dog.

The Equine Center
4850 Davenport Creek Rd, San Luis ObispoDr Emily has been our vet for many years and I love her calm and confident approach. Recently worked with Dr Yordanov who recommended inpatient treatment after diagnosing our new rescue pony at home with severe sand colic. The facility is the perfect place if my ponies need higher level of treatment. Both vets are professional and encouraging allaying my fears and answering all my questions. They provide prompt care and have lots of experience.

Mission Animal Hospital, A Thrive Pet Healthcare Partner
3973 S Higuera St #130, San Luis ObispoI really trust the staff at Mission Animal Clinic. They are always so caring and gentle, taking the time to put my Nervous Nellie at ease. My only complaint is they are just so expensive. It is true “you get what you pay for “, but it makes it difficult to see them regularly.

Thousand Hills Pet Resort
173 Buckley Rd, San Luis ObispoThousand hills pet resort is a must for pet owners who want to go on a trip. Or need even just daycare day. Care is a low cost amount and they can save cars on file for you and have information about your pets under their file for easy drop off. And pick up and payment. They are very professional and take good care of every dog that they board or watch for daycare. My 2 Jack Russell terriers are always happy to go there and get excited once they know where we are. What is nice is that you can leave feeding instructions. Toys measures feds and other things when you need to have them boarded for when you are going on a trip or out of town for several days. This has always been a pleasant experience for me. Using thousand hills pet resort in San Luis Obispo, California.

Dogtastic Training
893 Marsh St Box 1192, San Luis ObispoMy Whippet/Pit mix is a sweet and responsive girl. With her desire to please me, we did great together with positive reinforcement training, however everything literally went out the door as soon as she knew she was going outside. Her prey drive is off the charts and was unmanageable on walks - to the point of being dangerous for both her and me. I contacted Mark to work with us to manage her prey drive, even with my initial reluctance to use an e-collar. We discussed his methods at length and he let me experience the e-collar for myself. After a week of working with Mark, I now have new capabilities to walk and go on adventures with my dog safety - and we can enjoy ourselves. Now that Mark has worked with her, the rest is up to me to maintain what she has learned. This ended up being a successful way to go, given her challenges. And I'm grateful. One thing that impressed me right away about Mark is that he took the first day with my dog to orient her to her new environment and spent time bonding with her. Each day of her training, he sent videos of where he took her, what training he was engaged in with her and how she was doing - multiple times a day, keeping me informed. Any questions I had, he responded to immediately. Finally, I was given training on the techniques and tools so I am able to maintain and continue her training. She has responded very well to Mark and his training process! In fact, I think she fell in love with him :-) I have no hesitations to continue working with Mark if any further support is needed.

Pet-Friendly Restaurants

Kiko Restaurant & Pisco Bar
746 Higuera St #6, San Luis ObispoAmazing service, fantastic food. Highly recommend starting the meal with a Pisco Sour (even the virgin ones are great) and a skewer of grilled pork in addition to anything thing else you think might be enjoyed by your table. All the main dishes are soo good, so go with what sounds good yo you or one of the specials. And consider at minimum sharing the sweet potato flan (which comes with a scoop of ice cream too. You cannot help but enjoy the meal, and service provided by the owners is a simply top notch. A full meal like above with cost a little more than maybe some other restaurant but the food is of a significantly higher standard and deliousness (is that a word?) compared yo most restaurants in the county. A treat just waiting for you discover and enjoy.

There Does Not Exist
4070 Earthwood Ln Suite 110, San Luis ObispoThis might be a bold statement with other amazing hitters in the region, but I'd argue that There Does Not Exist, or TDNE for short, is hands down my favorite brewery on the central California coast.
First, the beer. Such an amazing array of IPAs, hazies, and a few other one off styles (Feathers, Bone Chimes and Eternal Rest is a Horus collab strong ale that is full of flavor), I bet you'll always find something you like. But the best kept secret here are their pretty dang perfect lagers. Each style is distinct from the next, and each brings out different soft, subtle flavors of grain with absolutely no errors. There's NOwhere to hide mistakes in lagers, but that's ok because TDNE makes their lagers with incredible precision.
Next up, the taproom. The space is open, large and incredibly inviting. A great place to spend a few hours, get to know other patrons, and sometimes to grab food from a visiting food truck or taco truck. We've met some great people here, and always enjoy our visits. Bathrooms are clean nice as well. Kid and dog friendly too.
The staff is friendly and are extra fun people to get to know, from those serving the beer, to the head brewer, and to everyone in between. It feels like a family affair - everyone appears to enjoy their time working there and it just feels homey.
Don't miss this spot of you're even remotely in the area.
