Fluffy Doggy Hotel
297 N Amphlett Blvd, San MateoBoth of my Bernedoodles have been going to Fluffy Doggy for several years. I love this place, and more importantly, my babies love it as well! Rachel and the team do an amazing job grooming and everyone is always super friendly. Whenever I pick up my pups, they are relaxed and happy. It's so nice to drop off knowing that my dogs are being well cared for and I don't ever have to worry about them. I totally trust FD!

LNiMo Pet Grooming
51a E 4th Ave, San MateoMy little one is a coward. Linda was being so patient taken care of her and made her feel comfy. She did a good job for veve. I like it when Linda actually asked how I want veve to be trimmed. Usually other grooming place not bothering to ask how I want it. I love it and I think veve loves it. I am sure I will bring my other babies back next time

Cathy's Clean Dogs
1888 Shoreview Ave, San MateoCathy is a gem! We used to go elsewhere for nail trims, but as my stubborn puppy gets older and more sensitive, he needs an even more gentle touch. Cathy is patient with his needs and she goes up and beyond any other groomer. Thank you Cathy for your gentle hands and big heart!!!
Update: my dog loves Cathy! Not a fan of the nail trim, but he has officially surrendered to her gentle skilled hands. Thank you for all the TLC you give my bff!
And he’s smiling during a blow dry! She’s a miracle worker ?

Pet Care

Aragon Veterinary Clinic Inc: Herbert Larry F DVM
819 S B St, San MateoDr. Sutter & his staff are truly Godsent. Dr. Sutter is very kind, knowledgeable and thorough. He has been looking after our pets for quite some time now, and continues to amaze us with his skills. I have a pretty big pack at home, and they all are patients at this clinic. My kitten had a recent surgery with Dr. Sutter to have his injured eye removed. I felt very at ease knowing my little guy was in the best hands. I have another adult cat that has been Dr. Sutters patient for quite some time, and he always provides great care and recommendations during annual visits. Our two dogs also are quite nervous around people, but they absolutely love Dr. Sutter and his technicians. They are so loving and gentle to them, truly treating them as if they were their own pets. His staff is absolutely wonderful, and kind. All of my interactions with them have been positive, and supportive. I am so glad we found this clinic, and Dr. Sutter. I give them all my strongest recommendation, and appreciation for their wonderful work.

South Hillsdale Animal Hospital
15 37th Ave, San MateoThey're incredibly amazing. It's hard for me to express it in a review (I rarely ever write reviews), but I'll try my best.
1. They're incredibly knowledgeable and thorough. One very recent example was when they caught the early kidney disease in my cat! She didn't have any signs/symptoms, but her bloodwork showed otherwise. We (me and my cat) are so grateful to the doctor and the staff for all their help with her diagnosis.
2. The pricing is fair unlike other vets in the area. Before becoming a patient here, I took my cats to a different vet. There, the doctor made it pretty clear that he only cared about money. He would charge A LOT and also try to sell you on unnecessary procedures (e.g. use of anesthesia to just draw blood or get a urine sample). Here, they go over all treatment options and pricing with you and they don't recommend things unless they think it's necessary.
3. They actually care about the pets! Just seeing how they interact and handle all of the pets (either my own pets or the pets in the waiting room) makes it clear that everyone there loves working with them. I've been at a few vets where dr/staff interactions were just transactional and cold. Being warm and kind definitely brings a level of comfort to everyone (pets + pet parents) and helps to ease an already stressful situation (the vet visit).

Scout's House Inc
257 N Amphlett Blvd, San MateoWe took our 6-year old Portuguese Water Dog, Mila, to Scout's house for several months after a bilateral TPLO surgery. Everyone at Scout's House was wonderful! They were very knowledgeable, provided effective exercise plans, and great instructions for us on how to work with Mila at home. Mila has great range of motion, and she's rapidly building strength in her back legs. On top of all of this, they kept it fun - Mila was always excited to meet the team and go inside. Highly recommend if you are looking for good recovery support!

Inna Veterinary Acupuncture and Mobile Medical Services
257 N Amphlett Blvd, San MateoWe have been seeing Dr. Magnar for acupuncture at the clinic and are very happy with the care our dog has been receiving. His is a complex case and there is no magic pill, but the fact that he is always eager to go to and resistant to leaving the clinic after each session says a lot about the way he is treated there :)

Karma Dog Training San Mateo
3 E 3rd Ave, San MateoI have used Karma both previously in Texas and now in the bay area. I have a leash reactive Labrador and was paired with Viviane. Viviane was so excellent and within three sessions my dog was more calm, more responsive, and happier in high stress situations. Viviane did a great job training me as well to better communicate with my dog. She was great, she met me first at my home in San Francisco, and then we met in the middle in San Mateo. Karma and Viviane provide after action reports and items to practice in between sessions.HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

Mateo Pizza
851 N San Mateo Dr, San MateoFound this absolute gem while looking for a quick bite! The hand-tossed crust was perfectly crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. The toppings were incredibly fresh and loaded to the edge. The staff greeted us with smiles, and the service was surprisingly fast for a busy night. Great value for the price—we’ll definitely be back!

Claire's Crunch Cake
233 N Grant St, San MateoOrdered Claire's Crunch Cake through DoorDash for pickup, and the experience was equal parts surprising and delightful. The pickup location is actually someone's home, which definitely threw me off at first, but any hesitation disappeared the moment I met the team. They could not have been friendlier or more welcoming, and the whole exchange felt warm and personal in the best way.
The cake itself absolutely lived up to the buzz. The standout is the crunch layer, which adds a texture and flavor you just do not get from typical bakery cakes. It strikes a great balance between sweetness and richness without being overwhelming, and the cake itself was moist and well made. You can tell a lot of care goes into both the baking and the assembly.
This is very much a made-with-love, small business operation, and that shows in every aspect, from communication to the final product. It feels special knowing this is coming straight from someone's kitchen rather than a commercial bakery line.
If you are looking for a unique celebration cake or just want to support a local business doing something genuinely different, this is absolutely worth trying. I would not hesitate to order again, and now that I know what to expect, I am already looking forward to the next excuse to do so.

Suavecito Birria & Tacos
1100 S Amphlett Blvd, San MateoLove the garlic prawns they have here -- very unique protein option. Their California Burrito is the best you'll find in NorCal.
Only downside is the high price, hence 4 stars. I think it's like $19.70 for the Cali Burrito, then another $1.75 if you go for the prawns instead of standard protein. After tax, that's $23.51 for a burrito... It's definitely pricey for what it is, but unfortunately for me, it's very delicious so I'm a repeat customer.
