“Absolutely a lovely experience. While I started at big box stores looking for a dress I did see dresses that I liked but there wasn’t one dress for me to try on in my size (18). I was lucky to find a Lara dress online and went to the store to actually try the dress on! The lovely stylists not only made me feel like I was a “star” they remembered the dress I specifically said I like on my initial appointment request. If you need a formal dress take a moment to look at Lara’s dresses.”
“The exterior of the store is beautiful and great for photos. My daughter had mapped out this as a must do on our trip after seeing it all over TicTok, however, when we got inside we were disappointed with the size options and styles available. There was only one style of sweatshirt that had a size medium available. All others were XL and above. I’d advise calling ahead to check availability before you make the trip.”

“I’m not sure if it’s this company because there was two dress business inside, but I had a very lovely experience for my sisters prom dress shopping. Two very nice and helpful lady guided us and even helped her pick prom dresses. My sister found two lovely dresses that she loves. Even though it was past closing time, they still stayed to help my sister decide on her decision. Not to mention, they weren’t forcing any decisions whether to buy it or not, they just gave their honest opinion based on color and design. Thank you to them, my sister prom night will be special!!! I will for sure come back!!!”

“Trash and Vaudeville is one of those places that feels like a NYC rite of passage. I went in looking for boots and ended up spending way more time just checking everything out. The selection is great if you’re into punk, goth, or alt styles, and the quality is solid. The staff definitely knows their stuff, though they can come off a little blunt at first. Once I asked questions, they were actually helpful and honest, which I appreciated. Prices are on the higher side, but that’s kind of expected for the brands they carry. Overall, it’s a cool shop with real character and I’d definitely go back, just not expecting a super polished retail experience.”
“I got my favorite pair of boots here two years ago, and so I of course had to return for another (tis the season)! The curation is superb, well-priced, well-varied, with a broad selection of vintage pieces from all eras! I always try to stop by when I'm in the neighborhood, but sometimes they close before their listed hours!
Edie is a sweetheart! She helped me in my search for a new pair of boots, encouraging me to collect all the pairs in the store that caught my eye. She even offered insoles as I tried them on, and insisted I take my time walking around in each pair. Edie offered invaluable, honest feedback when I expressed my long-time desperation for a new pair (the pair I adored were a tad too big). I felt seen and understood by her advice! I can't wait to come back - I trust Edie and her partner's curation and collection more than I do any other boutique in the city.”

“My tried and true place in NYC if you have a the time to stop in one! Not the most organized store by category, but if you have the time to sift through their racks, there are some great gems. I tend to prefer their selects during the summer. They carry their own brand and a range of other third party brands, so it feels like you can find something for every occasion.”

“I was looking for a nice pair of dress pumps, plus an elevated mule or chelsea to replace my long-lasting but finally rather weatherbeaten pair of Will's Vegan Shoes. They had no pumps at all, and every other style that I was interested in was not available in size 8. Consider calling ahead to check on styles you may be interested in. I purchased a cute pair of Novacas sandals. I have no experience with the brand so time will tell. Helpful vs hovering is a fine line to tread, but this didn't really hit the mark for me. While I was in the store, another customer came in. Looking at a pair of Vegetarian Shoes, he asked: "What's the definition of vegetarian shoes?" The store guy replied, yelling across the store instead of crossing the distance: "That's the brand." This instantly struck me as an odd answer because the guy clearly had no context for what any sort of "vegetarian shoe" was. The customer seemed perplexed. The store guy continued: "They're all vegan." "But what brand are they?" "Vegetarian Shoes IS the brand," he said, a little short. The guy complimented the shoes and left, clearly no wiser than before as to what was being sold here. Seems like a missed opportunity to meet people where they are, no?
