“I am a frequent shopper at Trader Joe's in Alexandria, and they always have the freshest flowers and everything is always restocked. During checkout, all of the clerks are very pleasant and willing to have conversations. They also inform you about the newest food snacks, and when things will be restocked, if it's not in store that day. Overall, my experience every time is very pleasant.”

“Thank God, we have this store around here, we can find a lot of stuff from back home! The whole family loves this please , the owner and they were couple other people that worked there that were quite friendly. However, they hired a new girl that first of all knows nothing about the store, or products, or what they offer, sell their, second she is not friendly, talkative, or god forbid you ask where anything is….. she just stairs like you are talking a foreign language. Despite that we love this store and we try to avoid going there when she is there.”

“Come here for your West African ingredients, from canned foods, through Kenkey to bread and pastries. They stock a variety of items for your typical cuisine. Apparently they also provide remittance services and sell international call cards. I had to pass through to get my Kenkey (Fante and ga) before I travelled back home.”

“Overall this location has some solid organic finds in produce for a good price. Great price on pasture raised eggs. The price for organic meat is decent too - on par with Costco and BJs for organic produce. This location is cleaner and better than some other Aldis.”

“Food! Go for the food! Family run. Went on a Saturday, parking lot was busy and nearly full. Regardless, grab a menu order in the back and grab a seat. Vegetarian sampler and a mixed kabob and shish kabob platters arrived in a timely manner. Low key paper plates, but perfectly cooked, family happy. Will go back”

“Very cute organic grocery shop. They carry delicious locally baked breads, have bulk foods like oats, and prices are reasonable for the area (especially for bulk foods), and carry vegetables in season. Also bulk tea, spices and fun little gifts. Really grateful to have a shop like this. Would love to see a true coop one day in the area but until then...”

“Love foxtrot!! Have tried several coffee shops in old town and foxtrot always comes out on top - great cappuccinos, lattes and matcha. Ordering drinks ahead on the app is super convenient and if you make an account, you get 1 free drink a month. The staff is very friendly and welcoming, there is lots of seating upstairs, and they have a well curated selection of snacks and misc food items.”

“I have been shopping at Mom's since it first opened. I'm never disappointed. The only challenge I ever encountered was when the store was expanded and I needed to relearn the location of items. Thank you for being such a superb store!”

“Everyone is friendly here from the front of the house to the butcher. Great selection from kimem to traditional houseware items. Injera that is made in-house and is the best! Light and fresh always! I use to always get Ethiopian injera until I discovered Alem gebeya injera. It’s always an easy 1-stop shop for all habesha needs, the best in the area!”

“The C store is very similar, to a 7/11, but the one difference, is that they have two lottery stations, an a couple of self service machines, the store, also has a lot of snacks, that one would've found in the corner stores of yester-year's.”

“Everyone is always friendly and will point direction to make your shopping experience quick and easy. They also questions when I'm shopping alone. And I'm constantly asked where is my mom and is ok. That's truly great customer service.”

“I ordered the veggie combo for carryout and it was WONDERFUL! My order was available for pickup in about 15 minutes. There were a nice variety of veggies. The combination of flavors and textures was perfect. I liked the mild to medium level of spiciness. I'll definitely be back soon! For new customers, don't be put off by the outdated store fronts or the rough parking lot - the two little carryout restaurants in this location get lots of carryout business and return customers, because they're local hole in the wall places offering tasty food options!”

“First time here - Fancy, Expensive, Yet Lovely...Usually Whole Foods is the only upscale grocery store that comes to my mind until I went to Wegmans for the first time. There were some hard to find items that I have not been able to find in Wegmans that I can't find in any of the grocery stores here: Lapsang Souchong Tea, Chamois pepper sauce for fruit, and Hing for seasoning my mung beans. Yet I was impressed by the well displayed fruits, meals, and kitchen/ dining ware. The wine & beer section was very impressive. I got an Australian wine and a Grateful Dead Cabernet. I wanted to buy more wine despite I have stopped drinking until the holidays, yet I know where to get a good priced wine from New Zealand, France, or Australia. Wegmans Veggie chip snacks (24 bags for $12) and baked chips in small bags were a steal. A bag of pears for $5-$6. 12 packs of Asian seaweed snacks for $7.99. Everything I purchased was an affordable deal despite the store having mostly high priced expensive items. I was tempted to buy a fruit or cheese appetizer platter until I saw the price was $22 or more. $6.99 for jumbo juicy blueberries was a pass too. Wegman snack & food products and high quality wines from foreign countries at very affordable prices are the reasons why I will come back to this store. The Wegman shopping card membership is free and scores you reduced prices on their products. You don't need a card to access it - just sign up for it at customer service. They have reusable shopping bags for 99 cents. Their grocery carts have drink holders too - a big plus.”

“M2M is one of my favorite places to go on the Avenue. Simple but delicious food, and a huge selection of beers. I love to just grab a sandwich and a beer and enjoy lunch at a table outside. It's such a pleasant way to pass the time in beautiful Del Ray!”

“The best place for purchasing fresh herbs at a reasonable price. Prices are also more competitive than all the other similar markets in this area, plus, I can find all the esoteric ingredients that other markets just don't carry. Don't forget the refrigerated section at the far corner of the store near the alcohol.”

“I’ve only been there 3 times for last minute stuff I needed. It’s pretty organized and has a variety of products. But, I only give it 4 starts because there’s always an issue with the price. Their products are labeled with a certain price, but when the cashier scans them, it’s different (let them know, they’ll check and change it for you). It’s happened twice to me, so just make sure they charge you the right price.”

“This place has great meat for making carne asada. They cut it to order and it is always tender. Their avocados are also amazing. Very big and delicious. The people behind the meat counter speak mostly Spanish but a little English and i generally have no problems ordering what i need from them.”

“I spent the day here yesterday in the Starbucks section of the grocery store. I was seeking out a relaxed environment where I could do work mainly. The fact that food and drinks were readily accessible was a bonus. The seats and a/c were comfortable, and I greatly appreciated it. Even there were far less customers then what you would see at a stand alone Starbucks. So that being said, it is much more tranquil and better for working. The WiFi signal was on point- double like. I believe that I ended up spending around $20 for food and drink and it was worth it!”

“Wonderful neighborhood supermarket with a traditional latin bakery in the back, deli and large produce area. The staff here are nice and always make small talk or crack jokes. Shop local and stay away from the big brand stores!”

“I have lived here since April 2010 and it has been a good fit for this introvert. There are many activities for anyone to do, we have a restaurant (the Grille), the Community Center has been upgraded to meet current needs, we have a First Saturday morning monthly coffee, a Grounds Committee that has had a good impact on upkeep of our woodlands, and way more. I can attest to the fact that Montebello has not had a special assessment and hopefully never will. Our finances are managed extremely well with the help of the Finance Committee, the Board, and Management. I encourage residents to get involved and those with a strong financial (or mathematical) background to join the finance committee. This place has helped me significantly grow to the point that I became a Board member as of March 2022 as a way to give back and share my knowledge and abilities with others, hear concerns, and address them as best as possible through the proper channels. If anyone reading this is thinking about moving here, make sure to get your finances in order then make a visit to here to see how living here could benefit them.”
