East Naples residents will soon see their first Wawa location, but plans are in motion for two additional Wawa stores to open.
The first Wawa location is nearing completion and is located along Livingston and Radio roads. Festivities for the grand opening will include remarks from Wawa officials, a parade on Wawa's history and a hoagie-building competition that benefits one local charity.
Wawa Regional Real Estate Manager David J. Macdonald said the company is planning a Price Street location, but no construction timeline or opening date has been set. That project has become a part of something even bigger than first anticipated. It will be added to the Price Street Plaza, which will include Dollar Tree and Tire Kingdom stores along with a retail center with smaller units for stores to lease.
According to records from the Collier County Growth Management Department, the Price Street Plaza will occupy close to 20,000-square-feet of retail space and be built on 6.5 acres of land. The construction will occur in three phases.
In the first phase, the nearly 6,200-square-foot Wawa store and gas station will be located adjacent to the Fifth Third Bank branch. The Tire Kingdom store is set to be located along U.S. 41 and be built during the second phase.
Wawa is allegedly going to be built on the southern side of the center, which means demolishing some retail spaces. According to the plans, units one through 15 will still be there.
Wawa started its Florida expansion five years ago and, since that time, has opened over 130 locations with an additional 25 to 30 stores opening each year for the next few years. Lee County currently has four locations.
Wawa provides consumers with a fast-casual menu such as its made-to-order hoagies, specialty beverages, hot breakfast sandwiches, freshly brewed coffee, etc.
