The Hillsdale Salvation Army Thrift Store recently held its grand opening for the new location, which is adjacent to the Premiere Theatre.
The ribbon-cutting ceremony drew a large crowd including members of the Hillside County Chamber of Commerce. The Hillsdale Biggby Coffee provided the refreshments.
Capt. Sean Grey led the group in prayer. Maj. Russel Sjogren, Salvation Army's general security, got the festivities going by thanking the members of the East Michigan Division, the local Chamber and city officials for attending.
Sjorgen said the Salvation Army would like to become an integral part of the community, hiring people using store proceeds to get into program services. He said the goal is to meet the people's needs and become the place to shop.
Hillsdale Tourism and Business Development Director Rachel O'Heran said the store will play an important role in the community, serving Hillsdale and the surrounding region.
Hillsdale representative Katy Price said the city was glad for the expansion and wished the Salvation Army the best.
After the ceremony was over, Sjorgen informed the crowd there was room in the back for process donated goods thanks to the additional 2,000 square feet of retail space. He said there was so much stuff available, and they are grateful to people for helping others in need.
Lori Schroeder is the Salvation Army's store manager. She said the work done at the store to help prepare for the opening was done through her dedicated staff. Schroeder said without them, it couldn't have been done in time. She said customer service is important to her and the store wants to learn about their customers.
The Hillsdale Salvation Army store will open Monday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
