With the foundation laid and the framework going up rather quickly, it won't be long before Dover residents will enjoy the Panera Bread restaurant.
Dover officials said the long-awaited Panera Bread is set to open in the early part of September.
Dover city planner Dave Hugg said there are many people anxiously awaiting the restaurant's opening. He said Panera Bread is extremely popular and adds to the city's eclectic nature of restaurants.
When Panera Bread is complete, it'll occupy 5,000-square feet of the Capital Commons' 37,341-square footage.
Its menu will offer sandwiches, fresh-baked bread, salads, soups and breakfast. It will also have an on-site bakery-cafe.
Panera Bread, which is based out of St. Louis, has over 2,000 bakery-cafes in the U.S. and Canada, promoting itself to be the restaurant with no artificial flavors, preservatives, colors or sweeteners.
Dover resident Tamra Price Callaway said it would nice to have healthier options and not to drive north to have lunch. She said she hopes the restaurant will survive Dover's temperamental nature.
Panera CEO and Chairman Ron Shaich said he takes it personally to serve healthy food.
The company is already operating six locations in Delaware, but Dover will be its first for Kent County.
