SunTrust Banks, Inc. is a United States-based bank holding corporation. The largest of its subsidiaries is Suntrust Bank, and its assets approximate $175 billion. As of September 2016, SunTrust Bank operates 1,400 bank branches and 2,160 ATMs across including Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Maryland, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, West Virginia, and Washington, D.C. They offer credit cards, lending, deposits and trust and investment services. The bank was founded in 1891 in Atlanta, GA, and its headquarters are still there today. In 1893 it changed into a trust company by the name of Trust Company of Georgia. The modern day SunTrust Banks came about as a merger between SunBanks, Inc. out of Orlando, FL, and Trust Company of Georgia in 1985. In 1995 the name was changed to reflect the SunTrust name.
