Ross Dress for Less, a clothing and shoe store, will take over the building that was once the home of J.C. Penney, Inc. in Burley.
J.C. Penney's closed its doors on July 31.
Ross Dress for Less also sells home decor and many other items.
Justin Silcock, a Rivergate Crossing shopping center owner, said tenants got very excited about the Ross Dress for Less banner going up. He said the banner going up caught many shopping center owners by surprise, as they weren't actually ready to make the new store announcement.
Silcock said he and other shopping owners had signed a lease with Ross a week before J.C. Penney announced it was close certain stores across the nation. He said the closure and Ross coming to the center is purely coincidental, as the store was already coming the Burley shopping center.
In the beginning, Ross Dress for Less was going to initially open in the old Dollar store location. However, when J.C. Penney's said it would be leaving, Ross Dress for Less opted for the west end anchor space.
Silcock said the old J.C. Penney store would be altered to become bigger.
He also said there are plans for a second well-known retailer to occupy the old dollar store location. Silcock said, space dependent, there may be two or three additional businesses in the center.
However, he said if a large retailer comes in, the space may be just enough for one more.
Silcock said the center is near capacity.
