Escanaba residents are getting their first Aldi grocery store, with its grand opening and ribbon-cutting ceremony taking place Oct. 12.
The ceremony will begin at 8:25 a.m. and the public is invited to attend. They can check out the store's interior, take advantage of the special store promotions and try the various products Aldi will have to offer.
The new store will have a modern look to it, with natural lighting, open ceilings and eco-friendly building materials like LED lighting, recycled materials and energy-saving refrigeration.
The company also added several new product lines to its stores such as the organic selection, LiveGFree gluten-free, SimplyNature, and USDA Choice meats products. The SimplyNature line does not contain any of the more than 125 artificial ingredients, as seen in other products. Its meats are also antibiotic-free, has no added hormones or animal by-products. The company also stocks baby products.
The Escanaba store will open from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday - Sunday.
Aldi, the German-based grocery store, came up with a $3.4 billion expansion and investment plan to increase the number of U.S. stores to 2,500 by the close of 2022. This plan will add roughly 25,000 new store, office and warehouse jobs.
The company currently operates over 1,600 stores in 35 states. It sees around 40 million customers every month.
